Bharat Petroleum partners with Microsoft
- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has announced a seven-year partnership with Microsoft to accelerate its digital transformation and enhance customer experience.
- Microsoft will provide infrastructure as a service (IAAS), platform as a service (PAAS), network and security services on the cloud, IOT and analytics to fuel BPCL’s cloud transformation.
Jnanpith Award presented to Assamese poet Nilamani Phookan
- Eminent Assamese poet Nilamani Phookan has conferred the 56th Jnanpith Award on 11 April 2022, the ceremony of which was held for the first time in Assam.
- He is also a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi and Padma Shri awards.
- Phookan is the third Assamese to receive the Jnanpith Award after novelist Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya (1979) and Mamoni Raisom Goswami (2000).
India to host National Delphic Games for Arts and Cultures in 2023
- The International Delphic Council, based in Berlin, Germany has announced the National Delphic Games in India to be hosted in
- 25 Indian states have already come together with State Delphic Councils to represent their unique cultures and arts and eminent personalities.
- The winners will represent India at the International Delphic Games which will be hosted in
Australia’s Victoria state to host 2026 Commonwealth Games
- The Australian state of Victoria will host the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
- The 2026 Games will be held in four regional hubs in the towns of Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Gippsland.
- The state has confirmed 16 sports for the Games so far, including aquatics, cycling, and Twenty20
- The 2022 Commonwealth Games are due to be held in Birmingham, England, from July 28 to August 8,
Indian Navy’s P8I aircraft reaches Australia
- Indian Navy’s P8I plane reached the Australian city Darwin on 11 April 2022 to participate in coordinated maritime operations such as anti-submarine warfare.
- The team from the Indian Navy’s maritime patrol squadron, Albatross (INAS 312) will engage with its counterparts from the 92 Wing of the Royal Australian Air Force.
- Australia has P8A aircraft in its fleet
NMDC wins two awards at 80th SKOCH Summit 2022
- National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) was awarded one gold and one silver award at the 80th SKOCH Summit and SKOCH Awards in April
- The theme for the SKOCH Summit was ‘State of BFSI & PSUs’.
- It also received the 3 SKOCH Order of Merit Awards for its efforts in ensuring seamless digitalization in Project Kalpataru and Project Safety First in the category Response to COVID
IAF’s Chinook helicopter creates a new unique record
- An Indian Air Force (IAF) Chinook heavy-lift chopper has created a flying record by completing a non-stop helicopter sortie in India, flying from Chandigarh to Jorhat (Assam).
- The 1910 kilometres route was completed in 7 hours and 30
- On March 25, 2019, the IAF formally inducted the CH-47 (F) I Chinook heavy lift helicopter into its inventory at a ceremony held in Chandigarh.
PM Modi to be honoured with Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award
- PM Narendra Modi will be honored with the first-ever Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award.
- The award has been instituted in the memory of the veteran singer who passed away in February
- The award ceremony will be held on 24 April 2022 in Mumbai.
- The award will be given annually to a person who has made a path – breaking, spectacular and exemplary contribution to the nation and its people.
International Day of Human Space Flight: 12 April
- The International Day of Human Space Flight is commemorated to mark the beginning of mankind’s space era.
- The first human-made satellite was launched into orbit by the Soviet Union in
- Sputnik I was the name of the satellite.
- Yuri Gagarin made the first human space journey on April 12,
- Gagarin was a Soviet citizen who also served as a pilot and cosmonaut
Elon Musk to not join Twitter board
- Elon Musk has decided not to join the board of Twitter.
- His appointment was due to become effective on 9 April 2022 after revealing that he had bought a 2% stake in the social media platform.
- He however remains Twitter’s largest shareholder.
- Elon Musk is the founder, CEO, and Chief Engineer at SpaceX, and also the founder and CEO of Tesla.
CBIC Chairman releases National Time Release Study, 2022
- Vivek Johri, Chairman, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, presented a set of Time Release Studies (TRS) conducted by the department, on 11 April
- TRS are a performance measurement tool for assessing the cargo clearance process of international trade, as recommended by the World Trade Organization.
- It covered 15 major customs formations, including four-port categories.
Anti-Tank Guided Missile ‘HELINA’ successfully flight tested
- An Anti-Tank Guided Missile ‘HELINA’ was successfully launched from an indigenously-developed helicopter at high-altitude ranges on 11 Apr’22, in Pokhran.
- The flight test was jointly conducted by the teams of scientists from DRDO, Indian Army, and Indian Air Force.
- The flight trials were conducted from an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH).
- The missile is guided by an Imaging Infra-Red Seeker
Khelo India National Ranking Women Archery Tournament from 12 Apr
- The Sports Authority of India has approved a total amount of Rs 75 lakh to host the Khelo India National Ranking Women Archery Tournament over six phases.
- TATA Archery Academy, Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) is set to host the first phase of the tournament on April 12 and 13,
- The tournament will be held across the Recurve and Compound events in the senior, junior, and cadet categories
Shehbaz Sharif elected as Pakistan’s new Prime Minister
- Pakistan’s parliament has elected Shehbaz Sharif as the country’s new Prime Minister following the removal of Imran Khan in a vote of no confidence.
- He will now form a new government that can remain in place until August 2023, when general elections are due.
- No Prime Minister has ever completed a five-year term in office during the country’s nearly 75-year history.
Kodava takke language
- Researchers have published a book titled “A Place Apart: Poems From Kodagu”. It is a bilingual edition of 21 poems by Appanna. This book will help spread awareness about the endangered Kodava takke language.
- Kodavas are an ethnolinguistic group from the region of Kodagu (Coorg) in Karnataka.
- Language – They speak the Kodava language.
- Kodavas worship ancestors and weapons. They are the only ones in India permitted to carry firearms without a license.
Seema Darshan Project
- Union Home and Cooperative Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated ‘Seema Darshan Project’ at Nadabet located on the Indo-Pak border in Banaskantha District of Gujarat.
- This multipurpose tourism project was completed under the direct guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- ‘Seema darshan Project’ was initiated with the aim to provide an opportunity to the people so that they can visualize the life and work of the BSF personnel on our border.
- BSF is constantly protecting our borders in very adverse weather conditions.
Second-fastest bowler to take 150 wickets in IPL history
- Rajasthan Royals spinner Yuzvendra Chahal became the second – fastest bowler to take 150 wickets.
- He achieved the milestone after he took 4 wickets during the clash against Lucknow Super Giants.
- Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga was fasted to achieve the feat.
- Chahal was earlier a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore and was associated with the franchise from 2014-2021, before getting released in 2022.

- International Day of Street Children (IDSC) is annually observed across the globe on 12th April to acknowledge the strength and resilience of millions of street children across the world.
- The day also recognise the humanity, dignity and defiance of street children in the face of unimaginable hardships.
