Two-day business conclave opens in Vizag on April 22, 2022
- A two-day Bizz Buzz Business Conclave is being organized by the Hans India in association with the World Trade Centre Visakhapatnam, on 22-23 April
- This is first in the series of such conclaves planned by the Hans Group in Tier-2
- On the opening day, the Conclave focused on topics like VizagA Port for Emerging Tech and Electronics, etc.
Russia tests giant new ballistic missile RS-28 Sarmat
- Russia tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile capable of striking Europe and the US, in April
- The RS-28 Sarmat can reportedly carry a 10-ton payload, including nukes, and target multiple locations at once.
- The missile is 3 meters long and 3 meters in diameter.
- The missile was launched from Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Arkhangelsk.
PMGKP insurance scheme extended for 180 days
- The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP) has been extended for a further period of 180 days from 19th April
- It is an insurance scheme for health care workers fighting COVID-
- The PMGKP was launched on 30th March 2020 to provide comprehensive personal accident cover of Rs. 50 Lakh to 12 lakh health care providers including community health workers and private health workers.
Colombo Security Conclave Virtual Conference held on 19 April
- The Colombo Security Conclave Virtual Conference on sharing of experiences in investigation of terrorism cases was organized by the National Investigation Agency of India on 19 Apr’
- Panelists from India, Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh participated in it.
- Participants agreed to identify specific areas to take forward the cooperation on countering terrorism.
Tarini Goyal wins Woman International Master (WIM) norm
- Tarini Goyal bagged the Woman International Master (WIM) norm in Budapest, Hungary, in April
- She had already crossed the ELO rating of 2200 in 2016 and earned two WIM norms while playing in Greece (2018) and Abu Dhabi (2019).
- With this latest norm, Tarini completed the mandatory requirement of three WIM norms and touched her peak rating of 2226 to bag the WIM title.
International Mother Earth Day: 22 April
- Every year, April 22 is celebrated as International Mother Earth Day.
- The day aims to spread awareness about issues, including pollution, deforestation, and global warming.
- The day was founded in the 1970s by Senator Gaylord Nelson to promote ecology and raise awareness of the concerns surrounding the earth.
- The theme for the year 2022 is ‘Invest in our Planet.’
Jasprit Bumrah among Wisden’s five ‘Cricketers of the Year’
- India captain Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have been named among five players in Wisden’s ‘Cricketers of the Year’ in the 2022 edition of the Almanack.
- The list also features New Zealand’s, Devon Conway.
- England’s Joe Root has been named the leading cricketer in the world, while South African women’s team batter Lizelle Lee has been awarded the title of leading woman cricketer.
G20 agrees to set up global pandemic preparedness fund
- G20 countries have provisionally agreed to set up a global fund for pandemic preparedness, likely to be housed at the World Bank.
- The WHO and the World Bank have estimated that the annual gap in pandemic preparedness funding was $10.5 billion and any preparedness fund needed to be financed over five years, suggesting a $50 billion ask.
India Post Payments Bank launches ‘Fincluvation’
- India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has announced the launch of Fincluvation.
- It is a joint initiative to collaborate with the Fintech startup community to cocreate and innovate solutions for financial inclusion.
- Fincluvation will allow the start-ups to work with IPPB and Dept of Posts experts to develop solutions and conduct pilots using the postal network and IPPB’s technology stack.
Churu and Bishnupur districts receive PM’s Award for Excellence
- Districts Bishnupur (Manipur) and Churu (Rajasthan) were presented Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in Khelo India, on 21 April
- They were awarded for promoting excellence in sports and wellness through the Khelo India scheme in New Delhi.
- The winners received a trophy, a scroll, and an incentive of Rs 20 lakh for the implementation of the programme.
National Apprenticeship Mela
- Skill India, in association with the Directorate General of Training (DGT), is organising a day-long ‘Apprenticeship Mela’ across the country in more than over 700 locations.
- The initiative aims to support hiring of more than one lakh apprentices.
- It will assist employers in hiring the right talent and develop it further with training and providing practical skill-sets.
- Over 4000 organisations from more than 30 industries, including power, retail, telecommunications, IT/ITeS, electronics, automotive, and others, participated in the event.
First state in the country to get an L-Route server
- Rajasthan has become the first state in the country to have a L-route server, which will ensure uninterrupted internet at high speed.
- Rajasthan will have its own domain name too.
- Currently, there are three J-route servers in the country at Delhi, Mumbai and Gorakhpur and two L-route servers in Mumbai and Kolkata, but Rajasthan is the first state in the country to set up L-route servers at the state level.
- He said a L-route server has been established in the state at Bhamashah State Data Center in association with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
New Director General of Military Operations (DGMO)
- Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar has been appointed as the next Director-General of Military Operations (DGMO).
- He would take charge of the new office on May 1st. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Lieutenant General Katiyar was commissioned in the 23rd Battalion of the Rajput Regiment in June 1986.
- Lieutenant General Katiyar is presently the General Officer Commanding of 1 Corps, a strike formation responsible for offensive operations against both Pakistan and China.
Target for crop year 2022-23 is 328 million tonnes
- The ‘National Conference on Agriculture: Kharif Campaign 2022’ was inaugurated by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
- During the event, the government announced a foodgrain production target of 328 million tonnes for 2022- 23.
- Kharif food-grain production target has been fixed at 163.15 million tonnes, while Rabi food-grain production target has been kept at 164.85 million tonnes.
- Total food grain production has increased by 25% in the last 6 years from 251.54 to 316.01 million tonnes.
World’s largest electric 3-wheeler manufacturing facility
- Biliti Electric Inc (Biliti), based in California, United States of America, has announced its intention to establish the World’s largest electric three-wheeler manufacturing facility in Telangana.
- The plant will be built in 2 phases over an area of 200 acres. Phase I of 13.5 acres with a capacity to produce 18000 Electric Vehicles(EV) per year will become operational in 2023 and the larger facility of 200 acres with a production capacity of 240000 EV per year will become operational in 2024.
