India’s contribution of 72,124 dollars released for a UNESCO fund
- Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has released India’s contribution of 72,124 Dollars to the UNESCO Fund for Elimination of Doping in Sport in 2022.
- It is a considerably enhanced contribution of twice the assessed value.
- First time in 2021, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports contributed of USD 28172 towards the UNESCO Fund on the basis of the request received from UNESCO.
247th raising day of Army Ordnance Corps: 8 April
- Army Ordnance Corps celebrated its 247th raising day on 8 April
- The Corps came into existence with the establishment of the ‘Board of Ordnance’ on 8th April
- It is entrusted with the task of managing a large and complex inventory and providing logistic support to the Army.
- Lieutenant General RKS Kushwaha is the Director-General Ordnance Services
CPRI gets NABCB accreditation to certify certain electrical equipment
- The Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) has received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies to certify certain electrical equipment.
- Manufacturers who obtain test certificates from CPRI would be able to export their products without the requirement of retesting or authentication by any other body outside India.
- CPRI comes under the Power Ministry.
Satyapal Malik honoured with the Sant Namdeo National Award
- Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik and former Research and Analysis Wing Director A S Dulat have been honoured with the Sant Namdeo National Award, for the years 2021 and 2020, respectively.
- They were awarded by Pune-based non-government organisation Sarhad.
- Sarhad is a social, cultural and educational organisation, dedicated to the welfare of the strife-hit people in bordering areas of India
UN Assembly approves suspending Russia from Human Rights Council
- The United Nations General Assembly has approved a resolution to suspend Russia from the world body’s leading Human Rights Council.
- The US-initiated resolution garnered 93 votes in favour, while 24 countries voted no and 58 countries abstained, including India.
- It is the second-ever suspension of a country from the council.
- The Human Rights Council is based in Geneva.
Sweden has launched a pilot project to reduce the carbon emissions
- Sweden has launched a pilot project to reduce the carbon emissions involved in steel production by switching some of the processes from burning coking coal to burning hydrogen.
- HYBRIT or Hydrogen Breakthrough Iron-making Technology – is a joint venture between steel giant SSAB, mining company LKAB and Swedish stateowned power firm Vattenfall.
- As per World Steel Association, every metric ton of steel produced emitted twice that much carbon dioxide.
The Maverick Effect
- A new book titled “The Maverick Effect” has been released, which has been written by Harish S. Mehta, the founding member and the first Chairman of NASSCOM.
- The book tells the untold story of how in the 1970s and 80s a ‘band of dreamers’ joined hands to create NASSCOM, which paved the way for the IT revolution in India.
30th country to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure
- Madagascar has become the 30th country to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), which was launched by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in September
- Madagascar will now be able to collaborate with other CDRI members to promote resilient infrastructure and contribute to the worldwide creation of a safe, resilient, and sustainable future.
- CDRI is a partnership of national governments, UN agencies and programmes, multilateral development banks and financing mechanisms, the private sector, and knowledge institutions.
QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022
- On 6th April 2022, QS Quacquarelli Symonds released the 12th edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022, the subject-wise rankings of institutes across the world are compilations of multiple lists.
- Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay ranked 65th and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)- Delhi ranked 72nd, are the only Indian institutes to be featured among the top 100 ranks under the Engineering and Technology category.
- IIT Bombay has scored 9 and IIT Delhi has scored 78.9.
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology has topped the list with a score of 5 followed by the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford.
First black female judge of the U.S. Supreme Court
- The US House of Representatives has approved the appointment of a black woman, Ketanji Brown Jackson, as a judge of the US Supreme Court.
- She is the first black woman judge of the U.S. Supreme Court.
SEBI has launched an Ideathon named ‘Manthan’
- Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has launched an Ideathon named ‘Manthan’, for supporting new ideas and innovations in the securities market.
- The ideathon was launched by Sebi Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch.
- Manthan is a six-week long ideathon to create a pool of ideas and innovative solutions revolving around the securities market
- Sebi has organised the initiative in association with BSE, NSE, NSDL, CDSL, KFintech, CAMS, LinkInTime and MCX.
India’s first underwater metro tunnel
- India’s first underwater metro tunnel in Kolkata is set to be made functional by 2023
- The construction of India’s first underwater metro tunnel in Kolkata under the Hooghly River for establishing metro connectivity between Howrah and Kolkata is underway and will be made fully functional by
- This metro tunnel is built under the Hooghly River at a depth of 33 Of the 6-km-long east-west stretch, 520 metres of the metro tunnel will be under the riverbed.
Asian Junior U-20 Men & Women and Cadet U-17 Boys & Girls Fencing Championships in 2023
- India will host the Asian Junior U-20 Men & Women and Cadet U-17 Boys & Girls Fencing Championships in 2023
- The Fencing Association of India has won the bid to host the Asian Junior U-20 Men & Women and Cadet U-17 Boys & Girls Fencing Championships in
- The championship will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The bid was submitted by the Secretary-General, Rajiv Mehta.
- The championships, which will witness the participation of approximately 1200 fencers from 20 to 25 countries, will take place in March or April.
