World Laughter Day: 1 May

World Laughter Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of May every year to spread happiness in the whole world.
For 2022, it was observed on May 1.
It was first celebrated on May 10, 1998, in Mumbai, India.
The day was arranged by Dr. Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur on 30 April 2022 inaugurated the 2nd Khelo Masters Games Delhi-2022 at Tyagraj Stadium in New Delhi.
Three thousand master players of the age group over 30 to 95 years, from 23 State and Union Territories are participating in eight games.
The event will culminate on 3rd of May 2022.

The first-ever Kerala Olympic Games were inaugurated by state Sports Minister V Abdurahiman at the University Stadium on 30 April 2022.
State Finance Minister K N Balagopal awarded the lifetime achievement award to boxer Mary Kom.
As part of the Games, which will be held from May 1 to 10, a 21.1 km-long half marathon will also be held.
A rabbit named Neeraj is the mascot of the games.

Noted snow leopard expert and wildlife conservationist Charudutt Mishra has won the prestigious Whitley Gold Award.
He has been awarded for his contribution to involving indigenous communities in the conservation and recovery of big cat species in Asia’s high mountain ecosystems.
This is his second Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) Award.
He got the first in 2005.

On May 2 every year, World Tuna Day is celebrated to spread awareness among people about Tuna fish regarding sustainable fishing practices.
The day was established by the UN in 2016 by the UN General Assembly to preserve the Tuna fish.
Tuna is a significant source of food for humans as the fish has several rich qualities such as Omega 3, Vitamin B12, proteins, and other minerals.

TV series based on pet care ‘Best Friend Forever’ on Doordarshan has been awarded at the 14th edition of the Exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards (ENBA).
Best Friend Forever is a half-an-hour weekly live phone-in show on DD National, wherein two pet experts guide people on how to take care of their pets.
ENBA Awards celebrate remarkable work done by leaders in the media industry.

Vinay Mohan Kwatra has taken charge as India’s new Foreign Secretary.
A 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Kwatra succeeded Harsh Vardhan Shringla who retired from service on 30 Apr’22.
Kwatra was serving as India’s envoy to Nepal before assuming the charge of the foreign secretary.
Before this, he served as the Ambassador of India to France from August 2017 to February 2020.

India and the UAE‘s free trade agreement has come into effect on 1 May’22.
Under the pact, domestic exporters in various sectors such as textiles, agriculture, dry fruits, gems, and jewellery will get duty-free access to the UAE market.
The pact is officially termed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
The consignments to Dubai will not attract any customs duty under this.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has announced the appointment of Nand Mulchandani as its first-ever Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
CIA is the first line of defence for the United States.
Before joining the intelligence agency, Mulchandani served as the CTO and acting director of the Joint Artificial Intelligence Centre under the US Department of Defence.

Chief Justice of India NV Ramana chaired the 39th conference of Chief Justices of various High Courts of the country, at the premises of the Supreme Court, New Delhi.
The first Chief Justices’ conference was held in November 1953 and 38 such conferences have been organised so far.
The last Conference was held in the year 2016.
It aims to address the issues concerning the judiciary and to discuss the steps to be taken to improve the justice delivery system.

Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has inaugurated India’s first ethanol plant in Purnia district, Bihar.
The plant has been set up by Eastern India Biofuels Private Limited at a cost of ₹105 crores.
Bihar came up with an ethanol production promotion policy in the first half of 2021. It is the country’s first grain-based ethanol plant.
Ethanol production will help to reduce the cost of petrol and generate fresh employment support.
