Petascale Supercomputer PARAM Shakti inaugurated at IIT Kharagpur

• PARAM Shakti”, a Petascale Supercomputer “at IIT Kharagpur, has been dedicated to the nation under National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) on 28 Mar’22.
• This facility has pioneered in using RDHX based efficient cooling system to obtain a high-power usage effectiveness.
• This facility will provide a major boost to the research and development initiatives in Indian academia and industries.

20th National Para Athletics Championships Begins in Odisha

• The 20th edition of the National Para Athletics Championship is being held at Kalinga Stadium from March 28 to 31.
• A total of 982 para-athletes including 758 athletes with physical disabilities will participate in the event.
• Tokyo 2020 Paralympic medallists Devendra Jhajharia, Sharad Kumar and Sundar Singh Gurjar are among the other participants.

BCCI Honours Stars of Tokyo Olympics Including Lovlina Borgohain

• The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) prior to the opening match of IPL 2022, honoured India’s 2020 Tokyo Olympics star Lovlina Borgohain on 26 Mar’22.
• Apart from her, Neeraj Chopra, India’s first and only Olympic gold medallist and men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh were also honoured.
• India had a memorable performance in the Tokyo Olympics and won 7 medals.

Pramod Sawant takes oath as Goa CM for second consecutive term

• Pramod Sawant took oath as the Chief Minister of Goa, in a ceremony held at the Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee stadium in Taleigao on 28 Mar’22.
• Eight other MLAs also took oath as Cabinet Ministers.
• Mr Sawant took over the reins after the death of former defence minister and Goa CM Manohar Parrikar in 2019.
• Goa Legislative Assembly consists of 40 MLA members.

Telangana CM KCR inaugurates renovated Yadadri temple

• The sanctum sanctorum of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy at the newly renovated Yadadri temple complex has been inaugurated on 28 Mar’22.
• CM K Chandrashekhar Rao attended the concluding ceremony of ‘Maha Kumbha Samprokshana’.
• The temple exhibits a fusion of both Dravidian and Kakatiyan styles of architecture.
• The architecture of the temple is based on Agama Shashtra.

Oscars-22: CODA wins Oscar for Best Picture, ‘Dune’ won Cinematography

• “CODA” won three awards including Best Picture in Oscar 2022 ceremony.
• Troy Kotsur, who won for best supporting actor, becoming the first Deaf man to win an Academy Award for acting.
• Jessica Chastain won her first Oscar for her performance in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”

Oscars 2022: Will Smith wins Best Actor, Jessica C. lifts Best Actress

• The winners of the 94th Academy Awards or Oscar awards announced on 28 March 2022.
• Will Smith was declared best actor for ‘King Richard.
• While Jessica Chastain won the best actress Oscar for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
• Jane Campion became just the third woman in the 94-year history of the Oscars to win the best director, for her “Power of the Dog.

PV Sindhu wins Swiss Open title, beats B. Ongbamrungphan of Thailand

• Women’s world No 7, PV Sindhu has defeated Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan in Swiss Open’22 Final on 27 Mar’22.
• Earlier, she won the Syed Modi India International in Lucknow in January 2022.
• She is the second Indian woman to win the Swiss Open, Saina Nehwal having won in 2011 and 2012.
• HS Prannoy failed in a bid for an Indian double, losing the men’s final.

Amit Shah inaugurates Integrated Command &Control Centre in Chandigarh

• Union Minister Amit Shah inaugurated Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) on 27 March 2022.
• Under which around 2,000 CCTV cameras have been installed.
• There will be monitoring of many civil facilities from a single command centre and there will also be a system to upgrade them

World Theatre Day: 27 March

• March 27 is celebrated as World Theatre Day around the world. The International Theatre Institute has been celebrating this day since 1962, across theatre communities around the world.
• The first message was written by French playwriter Jean Cocteau on World Theatre Day.
• The first ITI conference was held in Finland, Helsinki and the second one was held in Vienna

DRDO successfully tests Army version of medium range S-to-A  Missile

• Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has conducted successful flight tests of the Indian Army version of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) on March 27, 2022.
• It is a Surface-to-Air Missile developed jointly by DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Israel.
• The MRSAM Army weapon system comprises multi-function radar, mobile launcher system and other vehicles.

Railway lifts Obaidullah Khan Hockey Cup

• Indian Railways’ men Hockey team won the prestigious Obaidullah Khan Heritage Hockey Cup held at Bhopal (MP) on 27 Mar’22.
• It was started in year 1931 as Obaidullah Gold Cup.
• Last time, in the year 2016, the tournament was won by BPCL and Railways team was runners up.

Military drill Balikatan 2022

• The United States military and the military of Philippines kicked off the military drill Balikatan 2022 on March 28,
• The Philippine-led annual exercise will take place across Luzon in Philippines region near Taiwan, from March 28 to April 8,
• Around 8,900 Filipino and American troops are participating in the military drill, making it the largest Balikatan military exercise ever.

Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) has set up an Ink Manufacturing Unit named “Varnika”

• Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) has set up an Ink Manufacturing Unit named “Varnika” in Mysuru, with an annual ink manufacturing capacity of 1,500 MT to enhance the security of banknotes.
• Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) a wholly owned subsidiary of RBI.
• Shaktikanta Das (Governor of RBI) has dedicated “Varnika”, the Ink Manufacturing Unit of Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) to the nation in Mysuru.

Formula One 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

• Max Verstappen (Red Bull – Netherlands) has won the Formula One 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
• Charles Leclerc (Ferrari- Monaco) came second and Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari – Spain) came third.
• It was the second edition of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, and the second round of the 2022 Formula One World Championship.

India’s 1st ‘Steel Road’

• India’s first-of-its kind road made out of steel waste has come up in Surat city of Gujarat at the Hazira Industrial Area.
• The road has been built by Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India in collaboration with CSIR India (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research), CRRI (Central Road Research Institute) and NITI Aayog.
• The new experimental road project is 6-lane and 1kilometre in length. It consists of 100 percent processed steel slag.
• Slag is a by-product separated from metals during the smelting or refining of ore.
