Most Noise Polluted city globally

  • Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, has been ranked as the Most Noise Polluted City Globally, according to the recent ‘Annual Frontier Report, 2022’ published by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
  • As per the report, the city recorded a noise pollution of 119 decibels at its highest (dB) in 2021.
  • Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad came second in the list with a noise pollution of 114 decibels.
  • Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan is third, with maximum noise pollution of 105 dB.
  • The WHO guidelines states that sounds with a frequency of over 70 dB are considered harmful to health. For residential areas, sound limit of 55-dB are standard, while for traffic and business sectors, this limit is 70 dB

Stockholm Water Prize 2022

  • Professor Emeritus Wilfried Brutsaert has been named as the Stockholm Water Prize Laureate 2022.
  • He has been awarded for his ground-breaking work to quantify environmental evaporation.
  • Wilfried Brutsaert is Professor in Engineering Emeritus at Cornell University, USA.
  • The Stockholm Water Prize is the world’s most prestigious water award and is often described as the Nobel Prize of water.
  • The prestigious Prize has been awarded since 1991 to people and organizations for extraordinary water related achievements.

12th edition of Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav 2022

  • The Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and DoNER Shri G. K Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Governor Shri Biswabhusan Harichandan inaugurated the 12th edition of the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav (RSM) 2022 at the Government Art College grounds in Rajahmundry (officially known as Rajamahendravaram), Andhra Pradesh.
  • The mega Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav 2022 will place from March 26 to April 03, 2022 in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • The Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav is the flagship festival of the Ministry of Culture.

‘Covid Champion’ award at Wings India 2022

  • The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has won the ‘Covid Champion’ award at Wings India 2022.
  • Wings India is Asia’s largest event on civil aviation, including Commercial, General and Business Aviation.
  • The programme has been organised jointly by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and FICCI in collaboration with Airports Authority of India (AAI) at the Begumpet airport in Hyderabad from March 24 to 27, 2022.
  • The Covid champion award was received by CIAL Managing Director S Suhas IAS from Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia.
  • CIAL has been awarded for successful implementation of a meticulous project named ‘Mission Safeguarding’ during the pandemic time to ensure safe travel at Kochi Airport.

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana

  • The Government of India has announced an extension in the free ration scheme Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for another six months till September 2022. Earlier the scheme was valid till March 2022.
  • The PMGKAY scheme was launched in March 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic so that the vulnerable households do not suffer due to the non-availability of adequate foodgrains.
  • The extension would incur an additional cost of Rs 80,000 crore to the exchequer. So far about Rs 2.6 trillion has been spent on the scheme.

Government has set a target of building 220 new airports by 2025

  • Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the Government has set a target of building 220 new airports by 2025, citing the Civil Aviation industry as a critical component of India’s economy.
  • In response to the Civil Aviation Ministry’s requests for grants for 2022-23, Scindia stated that India has made progress in both domestic and foreign travel during the COVID-19 period.
  • Scindia stated that the pilot licence will be simplified in the coming days using cutting-edge technologies. The government intends to build 33 new domestic freight ports, 15 new pilot training schools, more jobs, and a stronger focus on the drone industry.

Web portal ‘Modi Story’

  • The granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi ‘Sumitra Gandhi Kulkarni’ has inaugurated the Web portal ‘Modi Story’ on March 26, 2022.
  • The Modi story website is a volunteer-driven initiative which aims to bring together “inspiring” stories related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi from those who have interacted with him during his life journey over the decades.
  • The portal can be accessed at www.modistory.in 

73rd Annual National Conference of Indian Psychiatric Society (ANCIPS)

  • The 73rd Annual National Conference of Indian Psychiatric Society (ANCIPS) has been organized in Visakhapatnam from 24th March to the 26th of March.
  • Experts from various parts of India and a few from abroad are participating in the three-day conference held at Vizag Conventions at Madhurawada.
  • The last national conference was held 37 years ago in Visakhapatnam.
  • The theme is chosen for ANCIPS – 2022 ‘Bridging minds … Connecting generations’ was very appropriate in view of the growing generation gap and its impact on society.

India’s 1st gold medal at World Para Athletics Grand Prix

  • Sprinter Pranav Prashant Desai has won Gold in the men’s 200-meter T64
  • He finished the race in 42 seconds. He is a gold medallist at the Fazza Championships.
  • T64 classification is for athletes with a leg amputation, who compete with prosthetics in a standing position.
  • Iraq’s Naas Ahmed created a world record in men’s javelin F40 finals by throwing javelin to a distance of 08 meters.
  • Currently, India is on the 15th position with four medals. Colombia is on the top of the medal tally with 13
  • More than 450 athletes from 43 countries are participating in the World Para Athletics Grand Prix.

“TIME100 Impact Awards 2022”

  • Veteran Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has been named as one of the awardees of the TIME100 Impact Awards
  • The actress has got featured on the inaugural TIME100 Impact Awards list for her work in the mental health struggles and raise awareness, through her LiveLoveLaugh Foundation.
  • The award recognizes global leaders who have gone above and beyond to move their industries and the world forward.
  • Apart from Deepika, six other global leaders have also been honored with the award.

Smart ventilator named ‘Jeevan Lite’

  • Jeevan Lite is a portable, cost-effective, and Internet of Things (IoT) – enabled ventilator powered by lithium-ion batteries.
  • Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan launched the Jeevan Lite recently.
  • Jeevan Lite is available for commercial use. It can be controlled with the help of a smartphone app.
  • It operates uninterrupted in various modes of ventilation for five hours. It is both invasive and non-invasive.
