Forbes Billionaires 2022 list: Mukesh Ambani 10th richest
- The Forbes Billionaires 2022 list has been released.
- Elon Musk is leading with a net worth of $219 bn, followed by Amazon Chief Jeff Bezos at $171 bn.
- Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has been ranked 10th richest on the list and is the only Indian to make it to top 10.
- Mukesh Ambani, with a net worth of $100.1 billion, is followed by Gautam Adani with a net worth of $90 billion
India contributes USD 150,000 to UN Democracy Fund
- India has contributed USD 150,000 to the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) for 2022.
- It has committed to supporting the fund in complementing other UN efforts in strengthening democratic governance worldwide.
- India is a founding partner of the UNDEF.
- Since its inception, India has contributed more than USD 32 million to the fund.
- India is also its third-largest contributor.
International Day of Conscience 2022 – April 5
- United Nations (UN)’s International Day of Conscience is annually observed across the globe on 5th April to promote a culture of peace with love and conscience in accordance with the culture and other appropriate circumstances or customs of their local, national and regional communities.
- 5th April 2022 marks the observance of the 3rd International Day of Conscience
International Day of Sport for Development and Peace: 6 April
- The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is celebrated on 6 April every year
- The day recognizes the positive role of sport and physical activity in people’s lives.
- The UN decided to mark the day on 6 April as on this day in 1896, the first ever modern Olympics were held.
- The theme for 2022 is, “Securing a Sustainable and Peaceful Future for All: The Contribution of Sport”.
DLF Chairman Rajiv Singh richest real estate entrepreneur
- With a wealth of Rs 61,220 crore, DLF Chairman Rajiv Singh has become the wealthiest Indian real estate entrepreneur, according to GROHEHURUN India Real Estate Rich List 2021.
- He overtook Mangal Prabhat Lodha of Macrotech Developers.
- DLF is the largest listed real estate company in India, with properties in 15 states and 24 cities.
- Chandru Raheja of K Raheja Corp retained the third spot.
India’s economy to grow by 7.5% in FY23: ADB
- Asian Development Bank (ADB) has projected India’s economy to expand by 7.5% in the financial year 2022-23 (FY23) and by 8% in the following year.
- It has also projected South Asian economies to collectively grow by 7% in 2022 and 7.4% in 2023, in its latest report.
- The developing Asian economies are estimated to grow by 5.2% in 2022 and 5.3% in 2023.
Elon Musk joins Twitter’s Board of Directors
- Elon Musk has joined Twitter’s Board of Directors.
- He has taken a 9% stake in the social media platform.
- His term will be expiring at Twitter’s 2024 annual shareholders’ meeting.
- Musk, either alone or as a member of a group, won’t be allowed to own more than 14.9% of Twitter’s outstanding stock for as long as he’s a board member and for 90 days after.
Vice Chief Lt Gen Manoj Pande all set to become new Army Chief
- Army Vice Lieutenant General Manoj Pande is all set to become Chief of the Army Staff.
- Previously, he served as the General Officer-Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command.
- The incumbent Army Chief General M.M. Naravane will retire by the end of April 2022.
- General Naravane is the front runner for the post of Chief of Defence Staff after the passing of General Bipin Rawat
Kalpana Chawla Centre for Research in Space Science and Technology
- The Government informed that Kalpana Chawla Centre for Research in Space Science and Technology (KCCRSST) was inaugurated at Chandigarh University on January 03, 2022
- The objectives of training students in space science, satellite development, meet future challenges in space research ensuring India’s leading position in future technologies.
- The Minister said that for strengthening the space sector of the country, Department of Space has established incubation cells & Space Technology cells to encourage R&D in space science, technology & applications at several premier institutes across the country
INDIA – KYRGYZSTAN JOINT SPECIAL FORCES EXERCISE
- The 9th Edition of the India – Kyrgyzstan Joint Special Forces Exercise which commenced on 25 Mar 2022 at Special Forces Training School, Bakloh (HP) culminated on 06 April 2022.
- Over the past two weeks, Special Forces contingents from India and Kyrgyzstan shared their expertise and best practices of tactics, techniques and procedures to counter existing and emergent threats across the entire spectrum of conflict.
Operation Upalabdh
- Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a Pan India Drive against the alleged black marketeers under Operation Upalabdh
- It is a pan India drive against activities of touts who use virtual tools to buy railway tickets before genuine passengers do.
- These tickets are then used by touts for business, such as selling tickets at a premium.
New Foreign Secretary of India
- The Government of India has appointed IFS Vinay Mohan Kwatra as the new Foreign Secretary of India.
- Mr Kwatra is currently serving as India’s envoy to Nepal, from March 2020.
- He will replace current foreign secretary, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who will superannuate on April 30, 2022.
- Kwatra is a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, having more than 32 years of experience in the foreign service.
3rd Hottest city in the World
- According to the El Dorado weather website, Chandrapur district of Maharashtra was the third hottest city in the world, with a maximum temperature of 43.2 degrees Celsius.
- According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur was also the hottest city in Vidarbha, with a maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Akola.
- As per the El Dorado Weather, Kayes city of Mali is the hottest place on earth with 44.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, Segou of Mali is second in the list with 43.8 degrees Celsius whereas Chandrapur is third in the list
13 New Districts in Andhra
- The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated 13 new districts in the state on April 04, 2022.
- The new districts have been carved out from the existing 13 districts.
- With this, the total number of districts in the state have increased to 26 district.
Super app mobile application that will be launched by Tata Group
- The salt-to-software conglomerate, Tata Group has announced to launch its one-stop mobile app called Tata Neu, on April 07, 2022.
- Tata Neu is being launched as a supper app where users can find everything, from groceries to gadgets, and getaways.
- App will enable users to access all digital services and apps offered by Tata Group such as booking AirAsia flights, booking hotels at Taj Group, ordering groceries from Bigbasket and many other services.
- Payments can be made instantly for any online and in-store purchases, utility bills & more, using Tata Pay, a United Payments Interface (UPI)-based digital payments service.
- The Tata Neu App will give a stiff competition to likes of Amazon, Flipkart and Jio Platforms in the consumer digital economy space.
2022 Grammy Award for Best New Age Album
- Ricky Kej has won the Grammy Award for his album Divine Tides, for the Best New Age Album.
- He won the award jointly with rock legend Stewart Copeland.
- This is the second Grammy Award win for Kej.
New book titled ‘Decoding Indian Babudom’
- A new book titled ‘Decoding Indian Babudom’ authored by Ashwini Shrivastava and published by Vitasta Publishing Private Limited launched.
- This is a first-of-its-kind book by a journalist covering the bureaucratic system of India.
- It highlights India’s administrative system and functioning of governance from a common man’s point of view.
India’s largest single-axis solar tracker system
- Tata Power Renewables Energy Ltd (TPREL) has commissioned a 300 MW project in Dholera, Gujarat; it is India’s largest single-axis solar tracker system.
- The project will generate 774 million units annually and reduce approximately 704340 MT/year of carbon emission. With this the installation entails 8,73,012 numbers of Monocrystalline Photovoltaic (PV) Modules.
- 1320 Acre area has been used for the installation. The renewables capacity in operation for Tata Power is 3,400 MW – Solar: 2,468 MW and Wind: 932 MW.
Chameli Devi Jain Award for an Outstanding Woman Mediaperson 2021
- Journalist from Mumbai, Aarefa Johari was awarded with the Chameli Devi Jain Award for an Outstanding Woman Mediaperson 2021. It was announced by the Media Foundation.
- Aarefa Johari works for ‘Scroll.in’ in Mumbai, Maharashtra. In 2020, Neetu Singh got this award.
- She is associated with ‘Goan Connection’ media house.
