First Indo – Pacific Business Summit:

International Climate Summit 2021:

  • India will host the “International Climate Summit 2021” (ICS) on September 3rd in New Delhi

France tests anti–drone laser weapon:

  • France successfully tests its new laser powered based anti-drone system named, “HELMA-P”.
  • HELMA-P = High Energy Laser for Multiple Application – Power
  • The HELMA-P is designed to respond to small unmanned aerial vehicles, securing operations on national territory by identifying, tracking, and neutralizing fixed or agile threats.

Nihal Sarin wins Serbia open:

  • Young Indian Grandmaster Nihal Sarin, emerged champion in the Masters’ section of the Serbia Open Chess Championship in Belgrade.
  • This is the second consecutive tournament victory for sixteen-year old Sarin after he claimed the title in Silver Lake Open

ICC releases Manu Sawhney as CEO:

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) has discontinued the services of Manu Sawhney as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with immediate effect. The decision was taken by the ICC Board during its meeting on Thursday

Manipur enters in Indian Railway Map:

  • A passenger train – Rajdhani Express from Assam’s Silchar railway station – reached the Vaingaichunpao railway station in Manipur for a trial run on Friday, putting the state on the Indian Railways map
  • According to reports, the train covered the distance of 11 km between the two north eastern stations, with railway officials onboard.

Kempegowda Heritage sites in Bengaluru soon:

  • The Karnataka state government decided to develop 46 Kempegowda heritage sites located in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Chikballapura, and Tumakuru districts, in a bid to promote tourism.
  • It would be developed at a cost of Rs 223 crore for promoting tourism.

National Film Archive of India adds Aamir Khan’s “PK” movie:

  • National Film Archive of India (NFAI), on Tuesday, announced a significant addition of the original camera negative of Rajkumar Hirani’s 2014 film ‘PK’ in its collection. The filmmaker handed the negatives over to Director NFAI, Prakash Magdum, in Mumbai.

RBI imposes monetary penalty on 14 Indian Banks:

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday imposed monetary penalties on 14 banks including Bandhan Bank, Bank of Baroda and State Bank of India (SBI) for various rule violations
  • The violations include non-compliance with certain provisions of directions issued by RBI on ‘Lending to Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs)’

2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee:

  • Zaila Avant-garde, a 14-year-old from the New Orleans area, won the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday night, becoming the bee’s first African American champion in its 96-year history
  • Avant-garde spelled “murraya” correctly to win the competition, after conquering words such as “retene,” “ancistroid” and “depreter” over multiple rounds
  • Chaitra Thummala, a 12-year-old Indian origin from San Francisco, andBhavana Madini, a 13-year-old Indian origin from New York City, came in second and third place, respectively

National Fish Farmers Day:

  • India celebrates 10th July every year as the “National Fish Farmers Day” to honor the fish farmers, aquapreneurs& fisher folks in recognition of their accomplishments in the field and their contribution in the growth of the fisheries sector in the country.This year it was 63rd National Fish Farmer’s Day.
  • Every year, on 10 July, the National Fish Farmer’s Day is celebrated in memory of scientists Dr. K. H. Alikunhi and Dr. H.L. Chaudhury who successfully demonstrated induced breeding (Hypophysation) technology in Indian Major Carps on 10 July 1957

New solar thermal components testing facility at  Hyderabad:

  • A newly established Concentrated Solar Thermal (CST) based test rig facility at Hyderabad can help the growing solar industry in India to test capability and performance of solar thermal components like solar receiver tubes, heat transfer fluids, concentrating mirrors.
  • The facility set up by the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), an autonomous institute of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), will validate solar thermal components such as solar receiver tubes, heat transfer fluids, concentrating mirrors, and AR coated glass tubes, etc. of the CST system in field conditions.

Himalayan Yaks:

  • For the first time, National Research Centre on Yak (NRCY) at Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh has partnered with National Insurance Company Ltd. to insure high-altitude yak
  • Yak is susceptible to inclement weather conditions due to climate change, diseases, attacks by wild animals, etc.

Maharashtra resumes immunisation against filariasis:

  • The Maharashtra government has flagged off its mass drug administration drive for the elimination of lymphatic filariasis and become the first State in the country to resume giving rounds of the drug after the second wave of COVID-19
  • Mass drug administration is one of the two pillars of the National Programme for Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis
  • A combination of two drugs, diethylcarbamazine (DEC) and albendazole, or three — Ivermectin, DEC, and Albendazole — will be administered during the drive

“Book at Doorstep” initiative:

  • The Ernakulam District Library Council’s initiative, ‘Books at Doorstep’, to revive reading habits among school children, has evoked enthusiastic response and is on course to exceed the target.
  • The project launched and aims at reaching out to 25,000 families spread across 500 libraries under the district library council.

Hackathon “Samvedhan 2021”:

Ltd. to conduct a National hackathon called ‘SAMVEDAN 2021 – Sensing Solutions for Bharat’ to inspire citizens to solve India-specific problems of societal interest using IoT Sensor Board.

Hidden lakes of Antartica:

  • With the help of an advanced Earth-observing laser instrument, NASA scientists discovered two active subglacial lakes under the Antarctic ice sheet
  • NASA’s Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite 2, or ICESat-2, allowed scientists to precisely map the subglacial lakes. The ICESat-2 used laser pulses to measure elevation data for ice, clouds and land and their topography

Pawan Singh: 1st ever Indian juror for Olympic:

  • Pawan Singh, the Joint Secretary General of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), has been selected as the first ever Indian juror for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games
  • Singh is a resident of Pune and is founder-director of the Gun For Glory Shooting Academy in Balewadi
  • A total of 26 jury members will officiate at the Olympics of which six will be from Japan and the rest from other countries

Eric Garcetti: US Ambassador to India:

  • US President Joe Biden has nominated Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, to be Ambassador to India.
  • Garcetti has led the country’s second-largest city since 2013 with a focus on improving transportation and sustainability.
  • Garcetti is also the first Jewish mayor of Los Angeles.

New book by Baljit Kaur Tulsi:

  • PM Modi received the first copy of the book ‘The Ramayan of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’ penned by Late Baljit Kaur Tulsi on 9 July 2021
  • Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth and last of Sikh gurus in human form. He was enthroned at the ‘Guru Gaddi’ at the age of 9.

India to have 24 Integrated Check Posts:

  • India will have 24 Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) along its land borders by 2025
  • This was announced by Aditya Mishra, Chairman, Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI).
