World Art Day: 15 April
- To honour and mark the birthday of the greatest artist of all time, Leonardo da Vinci, UNESCO’s General Conference in 2012 declared April 15 as World Art Day.
- Vinci’s Last Supper and Mona Lisa are some of the most popular paintings.
- The day was adopted by the International Association of Art and aims to promote the development, diffusion, and enjoyment of art.

Egypt approves India as wheat supplier
- Egypt, which is one of the largest importers of wheat from Ukraine and Russia, has approved India as a wheat supplier.
- Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal informed this on 15 April
- Egypt is looking to import 1 million tonnes of wheat from India and would need 2,40,000 tonnes in April
- India’s wheat exports increased to USD 74 billion in April-January 2021-22.
Himachal Pradesh Day: 15 April
- On this day in 1948, Himachal came into existence as a centrally administered province when its four districts Mandi, Chamba, Mahasu, and Sirmour were merged with 30 princely states.
- In 1951, Himachal was categorized as a ‘C’ state under the Indian Constitution with a combined population of 9,83,367

India to host Street Child Cricket World Cup in 2023
- India will host the Street Child Cricket World Cup in
- Organised by Street Child United and Save the Children India, the Street Child Cricket World Cup will welcome 22 teams from 16 countries to India.
- In 2019, this championship was held in London where eight teams competed, and Team India South lifted the cup after beating hosts England.
- This event will take place in September
Odisha CM unveils logo of 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup
- Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik unveiled the logo of FIH Senior Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 at Kalinga Stadium on 14 April 2022, in Bhubaneswar.
- The state will organize the tournament both in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29,
- In 2024, FIH will be in Muscat, Oman.

A new book “The Boy Who Wrote a Constitution” released
- A new book “The Boy Who Wrote a Constitution”, was released on the occasion of Dr BR Ambedkar’s 131st birth anniversary on 14 April
- It seeks to inform children of the challenging boyhood and growing up years of India’s first law minister Dr BR Ambedkar.
- The fact-based drama is written by noted playwright and author Rajesh Talwar.
- It is published by Ponytale Books.

- Good Friday is being observed on 15 April
- The day marks the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.
- According to the Bible, Jesus was caught and put on trial for claiming to be the ruler of the Jews after being betrayed by one of his disciples, Judas.
- He was sentenced to death by crucifixion and was forced to carry his cross up a hill while wearing a crown of thorns.
India Pulses and Grains Association appoints Bimal Kothari as Chairman
- India Pulses and Grains Association (IPGA) has announced the appointment of Bimal Kothari as the new Chairman with immediate effect.
- Jitu Bheda has stepped down as the current Chairman.
- Bheda was appointed the Chairman of IPGA on 25th April 2018
- Bimal Kothari has been the Vice Chairman of IPGA since 2011 when it was formed.
- IPGA is the apex body for India’s pulses trade and industry.
N Chandrasekaran takes charge as Tata Digital Chairman
- Tata Sons Executive Chairman N Chandrasekaran has formally taken charge as Chairman of Tata Digital.
- He was reappointed as the Chairman of Tata Sons for another five years in February
- At present, Tata’s digital strategy is being spearheaded by its CEO Pratik Pal along with Mukesh Bansal, founder of Cultfit.
- Tata Digital announced the launch of its super app Tata Neu in April
Axiom-1 Mission
- The first-ever private mission to the International Space Station (ISS) named Axiom-1 has reached the ISS.
- It is the first all-private astronaut mission to the International Space Station.
- The mission was launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida and is flying on the SpaceX Crew Dragon Endeavour.
- Under the mission, the astronauts will spend more than a week conducting scientific research, outreach and commercial activities on the space station.
Scientific Conference on Homeopathy
- The Union Minister of AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal has inaugurated a two-day scientific convention on the theme ‘Homoeopathy: people’s Choice for Wellness’ in New Delhi.
- The convention has been organised jointly by the three apex bodies under the Ministry of Ayush namely, the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, the National Commission for Homoeopathy and the National Institute of Homoeopathy to mark the occasion of the World Homoeopathy Day
World’s 1st country to give legal rights to wild animals
- Ecuador, a South American Country, became the first country in the world to give legal rights to wild animals.
- The highest court in the country has ruled in favour of the case that focused on a woolly monkey who was taken from her home to a zoo, where she passed just a week later.
India’s G20 chief coordinator
- Foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla will take over next month as G20 chief coordinator, the government officially announced.
- The appointment is significant as India will assume the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022 from Indonesia, and will convene the G20 Leaders Summit for the first time in India in 2023.
- Shringla will retire on 30th April 2022, handing over charge to foreign secretary-designate V M Kwatra, who is currently India’s ambassador to Nepal
Fourth India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue
- The fourth edition of the ‘2+2’ Ministerial dialogue between India and the United States was held on April 11, 2022 in Washington DC.
- The dialogue provides a platform for covering all bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.
- The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar lead the Indian delegation.
ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March 2022
- The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the winner of ICC Players of the Month for March 2022 on April 11, 2022.
- Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been named as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March 2022.
- Australia opener Rachael Haynes is named as ICC Women’s Players of the Month for March 2022.
Tanzania
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tributes to the great leader, former Tanzania President and friend of India, Mwalimu Nyerere on his 100th Birth Anniversary.
- It was formed as a sovereign state in 1964 through the union of the separate states of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
- Dodoma is the official capital and Dar es Salaam is the seat of most government administrations as well as is the largest city and port in the country.
Megalithic stone jars
- Dozens of Megalithic stone jars have been recently unearthed in the state of Assam, at four previously unknown sites.
- The discovery has brought to focus the possible links between India’s Northeast and Southeast Asia, dating back to the second millennium BC.
- The study calls for more research to understand the cultural relationship between Assam, Laos and Indonesia, the only two other sites where similar jars have been found.
India’s first Community Museum
- India’s first Community Museum has been inaugurated in Gya-Sasoma villages of Leh, Ladakh.
- Tashi Gyaltson, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, LAHDC, Leh inaugurated the Community Museum in Gya – Sasoma villages of Leh district in Ladakh.
- The Community Museum is a joint collaboration between National Museum Institute (NMI), New Delhi, Delhi and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Ladakh.
Fastest Indian player to hit 100 sixes in the history of IPL
- All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is the captain of the Gujarat Titans team, has become the fastest Indian to smash 100 sixes in the Indian Premier League.
- Hardik achieved this feat during the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on 11th April 2022.
- Hardik took 1,046 balls to reach the milestone and also became the third-fastest player in the world to smash 100 sixes, after West Indies’ Andre Russel and Chris Gayle.
- Rishabh Pant is the second fastest Indian to hit 100 sixes in the IPL. He took 1224 balls to reach the milestone.
71st Senior National Basketball Championship
- Tamil Nadu defeated defending champion Punjab 87- 69 in the final to win the men’s title in the 71st Senior National Basketball Championship.
- The formidable Indian Railways team won the women’s title, beating Telangana 131-82 in convincing fashion, riding on Poonam Chaturvedi’s 26 points.
