 World Chagas Disease Day: 14 April

  • April 14 is observed as World Chagas Day every year.
  • The disease is also called American trypanosomiasis, silent disease, or silenced disease.
  • It is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma crizu.
  • This parasite is transmitted to humans through the triatomine bug.

Sabka Vikas Mahaquiz Series launched by the government

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is organising the Sabka Vikas Mahaquiz Series.
  • The quiz aims to sensitise the participants about the various schemes and initiatives and how to avail the benefits.
  • The first quiz launched on 14 April 2022 is the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

UGC releases guidelines for pursuing two academic programmes

  • The University Grants Commission on 13 Apr’22 released guidelines for pursuing two academic programmes simultaneously.
  • A student can pursue 2 full-time academic programmes simultaneously in physical mode provided that class timings for one programme do not overlap with another.
  • A student can also pursue 2 academic programmes, one in full-time physical mode and another in distance learning.

Vice President confers International Gandhi Award for Leprosy, 2021

  • Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on 13 April 2022 conferred the International Gandhi Award for Leprosy, 2021 to Dr. Bhushan Kumar of Chandigarh and Sahyog Kushtha Yagna Trust of Gujarat, in New Delhi.
  • The annual award was instituted by Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation.
  • Both have been working diligently to raise awareness about leprosy and in providing care to those afflicted with it.

Author Prem Rawat launches his book ‘Hear Yourself’ in Mumbai

  • Prem Rawat, a renowned educator has come up with his book titled “Hear Yourself: How to Find Peace In A Noisy World”.
  • The book was launched on 13 April 2022 at National Centre of Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai by HarperCollins in association with TimelessToday.
  • In 2012, he received the Brand Laureate International Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award, becoming only its 4th recipient.

PM Modi inaugurates Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, buys first ticket

  • PM Narendra Modi on 14 April 2022, inaugurated the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, or the Prime Ministers’ museum, the national capital’s Teen Murti Bhavan, which has been repurposed as the Prime Ministers’ Museum

Exports of Indian dairy products top $500-million mark, hit 8-yr high

  • The exports of Indian dairy products are estimated at an eight-year high in FY22 on robust demand, aided by higher global prices.
  • Provisional data for the first eleven months, April 2021 to February 2022, indicate that shipments have touched 70 lakh tonnes valued at over $552 million.
  • In rupee terms, exports grew to ₹4,115 crore, an year-on-year increase of 94% over ₹2,122

India’s first indigenously developed polycentric prosthetic knee – Kadam

  • India’s first indigenously developed polycentric prosthetic knee – Kadam was launched by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), the Above Knee Prosthesis was developed in association with Society for Biomedical Technology (SBMT) and Mobility India.
  • Kadam will help people with above-knee amputees to walk in comfortable gait.
  • Kadam has multiple axes hinge joints for rotation which provide greater control over the prosthesis and gives a maximum knee flexion of 160 degrees to make it easy to sit in cramped spaces like buses and autos.
  • The design includes high durable stainless steel and aluminium alloy along with hard chrome plated EN8 pins and high fatigue life polymer bushings, which was developed by a team at TTK Centre for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) at IIT-M

Hajj pilgrimage in 2022

  • Saudi Arabia has announced that it will allow one million pilgrims to perform Hajj pilgrimage in 2022.
  • Muslims from within and outside the country will be permitted to perform Hajj as long as they are fully vaccinated against Coronavirus and are under the age of 65.
  • As per the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the pilgrims from abroad will also have to present their negative COVID certificate test and will also face additional health precautions.

ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup

  • The inaugural ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup will be hosted by South Africa in January 2023.
  • The tournament will involve 16 teams and include 41 matches.
  • The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in 2021 but got delayed twice due to the Covid- 19 pandemic.
  • The new date was announced during the ICC Board Meeting on April 10, 2022. It will be held as a curtainraiser ahead of the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup that is scheduled to commence in South Africa on February 9
