Cryptocurrency Bill:

     The “Cryptocurrency and Official Digital Currency Regulation Bill 2021”, also known as the “Crypto Bill“, is expected to be tabled in the coming parliamentary session. Cryptocurrency is digital money. We cannot keep them in our pockets like rupee notes or metal coins. It is on the Internet. Doing business is also on the Internet.

India’s First Green Hydrogen mobility Project:

     A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Central Government’s “National Thermal Power Corporation” (NTPC) and the Ladakh Union Territory Government for the launch of “India’s First Green Hydrogen Mobility Project” in Ladakh’s Leh. Hydrogen produced by electrolysis using renewable energy is called green hydrogen.

Ganga Expressway – 2nd Longest Expressway in India:

     The 2nd longest expressway in India, the Ganga Expressway, will be built to connect major cities in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The 594 km long road project is to be constructed from Meerut to Prayagraj.

This will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Prayagraj from 11 to 6 hours. The longest expressway in India is the 1350 km long Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

Bhutan becomes first neighbouring country to use BHIM UPI:

     Bhutan has become the first country to adopt India’s Unified Payment Interface (UPI) standards for its quick response (QR) code). The Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) is a digital payment application (application) in India, operated by UPI, a system that enables multiple bank accounts to be used for a single mobile application.

Among commercial stores, Bhutan is the 2nd country to adopt a payment method through BHIM UPI. The first country to accept it was Singapore.

IISc scientists discover two species of few-electron bubbles in superfluid helium:

     Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru,  have experimentally shown the existence of two species of few electron bubbles (FEBs) in superfluid helium for the first time. These FEBs can serve as a useful model to study how the energy states of electrons and interactions between them in a material influence its properties.

India’s first telecommunications satellite to complete 40 years – “Apple”:

Apple, India’s first telecommunications satellite, has completed 40 years since its launch. The satellite was successfully launched into space on June 19, 1981. The 40th anniversary was celebrated on behalf of the University of Chandigarh, Punjab. (APPLE = The Ariane Passenger PayLoad Experiment)

Assam Government’s COVID-19 Widows Support Scheme:

     The Assam government on Sunday launched a scheme entailing a one-time financial assistance of ₹2.5 lakh to women who lost their husbands to the novel coronavirus since March-April 2020.

     The Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Widows Support Scheme is for women of low-income families with a total annual income of up to ₹5 lakh.

Deepak Kabra becomes first Indian gymnastics judge at Olympics:

     Deepak Kabra became the first Indian to be selected for judging the gymnastics competition of the Olympic Games. Kabra will be seen officiating the men’s artistic gymnasts at the Tokyo Games, which gets underway on July 23.

EAM Jaishankar unveils statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Georgia:

     External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Georgia at a prominent Tbilisi park. During his two-day visit to Georgia, a strategically important country situated at the intersection of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Jaishankar held talks with the country’s top leadership & also handed over the relics of 17th century St. Queen Keteva.

Centre of excellence at National Forensic Science University:

     Home Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated a research-based centre of excellence at National Forensic Science University in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The research-based centre of excellence at the National Forensic Science University in Gandhinagar will help our youths to become free from the addiction of drugs and narcotics. Home Minister Amit Shah also inaugurated the virtual training model on Investigation of Crime against women for Indian Police.

A book titled “The Great Big Lion” written by child prodigy Knight:

     A book titled “The Great Big Lion” drawn and written by child prodigy Chryseis Knight.  This book is a story about a lion and two children. It talks about friendship, inclusivity, wildlife conservation and the world of imagination. The book was published by Penguin Random House India’s “Puffin” imprint.

Google Meet puts a time limit on group video calls:

     Google has put a 60-minutes limit on Google Meet group video calls with three or more participants for free users with personal Gmail accounts. One-on-one calls on Google Meet will still be free and can continue up to 24 hours, applicable for both free and enterprise accounts.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting:

     Foreign Ministers of India, China, Pakistan, and five other member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) convened a key meeting of the group in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on July 14, 2021, with the security situation in Afghanistan and post-COVID recovery among key concerns.

Dearness Allowance for Central government employees hiked from 17% to 28%:

      The Central Government on July 14, 2021, approved a hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for the Central Government employees and the Dearness Relief (DA) for pensioners from 17% to 28% with effect from July 1, 2021.

NaMo App:

     To encourage the athletes in the Tokyo Olympics, PM Modi informed that people of the country can now convey their greetings and wish their best to the athletes participating in the Olympics via NaMo App. He also urged to encourage every player to take part in the Tokyo Olympics.

Ladakh becomes first UT to achieve 100% first dose coverage:

              Ladakh has become the first Union Territory of India to vaccinate all the residents as well as the ‘guest population’, consisting of hotel workers, migrant labourers, and Nepalese citizens who have been earning their livelihood in the UT, with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Bone Tissue Regeneration in Pune University:

     Savitribai Phule Pune University in India synthesised a nano biomaterial with a stable link between two molecules. The advancement could soon aid in bone tissue regeneration.

HC Rejected Notification of National Green Tribunal:

     The Madras High Court rejected a 2017 Central notification that designated the North Zone bench of the National Green Tribunal in Delhi as a principal bench. It was observed that the NGT’s five zonal benches are equally powerful, and their decisions are applicable throughout India. The zonal benches are Central Zone – Bhopal, East Zone – Kolkata, South Zone – Chennai, West Zone – Pune, and North Zone – New Delhi.

Kanchenjunga Biosphere Reserve:

     According to a recent publication by the Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Sikkim, India’s smallest state with less than 1% of the country’s landmass, is home to 27% of all flowering plants. Sikkim is a part of the Kanchenjunga Biosphere Reserve. In 2016, Khangchendzonga National Park (KNP) was designated a World Heritage Site in the ‘mixed’ category (Mixed heritage sites contain elements of both natural and cultural significance).

40th anniversary of NABARD Bank:

     The National Bank For Agriculture And Rural Development is celebrating its 40th anniversary. NABARD is a development bank that focuses primarily on the country’s rural sector. It is the apex banking institution for agricultural and rural development financing. It was established in July 12, 1982.

Puri Jagannath Temple Rath Yatra festival:

     This year’s Rath Yatra festival at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, took place on July 12th. The festival was held without devotees due to the covid-19 pandemic. Apart from police officers, only officials and temple authorities were present. Rath Yatra is a festival honouring Lord Jagannath (Lord Krishna), Goddess Subhadra (Lord Krishna’s sister), and Lord Balaram (his elder brother).  Rath Yatra is widely celebrated and is one of India’s largest festivals.
