India’s first ‘World Peace Center’ to be established in Gurugram

Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park launched

  • An Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK) with seed money of Rs 230 crore were launched at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru, in March 2022.
  • Of the Rs 230 crore, Rs 170 crore would be borne by the Centre and the rest by the Karnataka government.
  • It would work on creating a globally leading AI and Robotics Innovation ecosystem in the country.

India’s maternal mortality rate dips to 103; Kerala records decline

  • The Health Ministry has announced that the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) of India had declined by 10 points as per the special bulletin on MMR released by the Registrar General of India.
  • MMR refers to deaths due to complications during pregnancy and childbirth.

  • Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has inaugurated the world’s most advanced technologydeveloped Green Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) “Toyota Mirai” at New Delhi on March 16, 2022.
  • Toyota Mirai is India’s first Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), which is completely powered by Hydrogen.
  • Toyota Mirai has been launched by Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd and International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT) under a pilot project, to study and evaluate the performance of Toyota Mirai on Indian roads and climatic conditions.
  • This is a first of its kind project in India which will create a Green Hydrogen based ecosystem in the country and help India to become ‘Energy Self-reliant’ by 2047

Vishwanath Suresh (48kg) and Vanshaj (63.5kg) clinch gold medals

  • Vishwanath Suresh (48kg) and Vanshaj (5kg) clinched gold medals in the men’s youth competition, in March 2022.

India emerges as the largest importer of arms in 2017-21

  • The latest report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute on Trends in International Arms Transfer, 2021, was released in March
  • It revealed that India had emerged as the largest arms importer of arms between 2017- 21, accounting for 11% of all global arms sales.
  • Egypt, Australia, and China were the next 3 largest importers with respective shares of 7%, 5.4% and 4.8%

“International Day to Combat Islamophobia”

  • The U.N. General Assembly has approved a resolution to proclaim March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia every year, starting from 2022.
  • The resolution, adopted by 193-member UN General Assembly, was introduced by Pakistan’s ambassador Munir Akram on behalf of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on March 15, 2022.
  • The main objective of International Day to Combat Islamophobia will be curtailing systematic hate speech and discrimination against Muslims; respect for religious symbols and practices; along with the elimination of all forms of intolerance and discrimination based on religion or belief.
