Reliance Industries becomes 1st to hit Rs 19 lakh cr market valuation
- Reliance Industries Limited on 27 April 2022 became the first Indian company to hit the Rs 19 lakh cr market valuation mark.
- The market heavyweight stock jumped 1.85 percent to its record high of Rs 2,827.10 on the BSE.
- Following the gain, the company’s market valuation jumped to Rs 19,12,814 cr in morning trade on the BSE.
- In March 2022, its market valuation had gone past Rs 18 lakh crore.
Cabinet approves financial support for India Post Payments Bank
- The Union Cabinet has approved financial support of Rs 820 crore for India Post Payments Bank.
- The support will help the payments bank to penetrate deeper into the country, especially in the rural area, and work towards financial inclusion.
- IPPB has over five crore accounts at present and operates through 1.36 lakh branches.
- Around 48 percent of its account holders are women.
SpaceX launches ‘Crew 4’ astronauts on flight to space station
- Elon Musk’s rocket company SpaceX launched four more astronauts on a flight to the International Space Station (ISS) for NASA on 27 April 2022.
- The SpaceX launch vehicle, consisting of a two-stage Falcon 9 rocket topped with a Crew Dragon capsule dubbed Freedom, lifted off from Florida.
- The crew will begin a six-month science mission orbiting some 250 miles (420 km) above Earth.
Beijing releases book titled “Missile Life”
- On the occasion of the seventh China Aerospace Day, Beijing released a book titled “Missile Life”, in April 2022.
- It sheds light on the lives of 12 Chinese missile weapon model directors and chief designers for the first time.
- It was released by the Second Academy of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) on 24 April 2022.
Max Verstappen wins 2022 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year
- Max Verstappen has won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award.
- He earned the honor after beating out Lewis Hamilton to claim his first Formula 1 world championship during the 2021 season.
- Verstappen was announced as the recipient following a dominant victory in Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
- Lionel Messi, Roger Federer, and Michael Schumacher are the previous recipients of the awards.
World Immunization Week: 24-30 April
- WHO’s World Immunization Week is observed from 24-30 April.
- It aims to highlight the collective action needed and to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.
- WHO works with countries across the globe to raise awareness of the value of vaccines and immunization.
- The theme for 2022 is Long Life for All.
- The first vaccine was developed for smallpox in 1796.
Palli becomes India’s first ‘carbon neutral panchayat’
- Palli in Jammu and Kashmir’s border district of Samba has become the country’s first ‘carbon neutral panchayat’.
- PM Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation a 500 KV solar plant, in April 2022.
- In all 1,500 solar panels put up in a total area of 6,408 square metres will provide clean electricity to 340 houses in the model panchayat under the central government’s ‘Gram Urja Swaraj’ programme.
India and Maldives to establish transmission interconnection
- Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy R. K. Singh met Aminath Shauna, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Maldives on 26 Apr’22.
- Both leaders proposed two MoU –one on Energy cooperation and another on transmission interconnection under One Sun, One World, One Grid.
- Both have proposed to establish transmission interconnection for renewable power transfer.
Lt Gen Gurmit Singh flagged-off “BRO@63” MultiDimensional Expedition
- Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt General Gurmit Singh flagged off the “BRO@63” MultiDimensional Expedition from Dehradun on April 26, 2022.
- The expedition is being organized as part of the events leading to the 63rd Raising Day of the organization, which is on 7 May 2022.
- The expedition includes four distinct activities, i.e., a mountaineering trek to the 15,000 feet Pangarchula Peak.
L&T to collaborate with IIT Bombay to develop green hydrogen tech
- Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has signed an agreement with IIT Bombay, to jointly pursue research and development work in the green hydrogen value chain.
- They will work together to develop green hydrogen industry in India and to develop next-generation technology in this emerging field.
- L&T’s engineering expertise and IIT Bombay’s cutting-edge research will help this partnership accomplish its goal.
LIC sets IPO price band at ₹902-949 per share
- India’s Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has fixed a price band of ₹902-949 a share for its ₹21,000-crore initial public offering (IPO).
- The LIC IPO price band has been fixed with ₹60 discount for policyholders and ₹45 discount for retail investors and employees.
- The issue size is expected to be worth ₹21,000 crores, valuing the country’s largest insurer at ₹6 lakh crore.
Tata Sons approve Chandrasekaran’s reappointment as Chairman
- Tata Sons shareholders have approved the re-appointment of N Chandrasekaran as Chairman for another 5-year term.
- He took over the reins of Tata Sons in 2017.
- He joined the Tata Sons board in October 2016 and was designated Chairman in January 2017 and took official charge in February 2017.
Asia’s biggest international food and hospitality fair
- Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) in alliance with the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) is organizing Asia’s biggest international food and hospitality fair AAHAR 2022 in New Delhi.
- APEDA has also created stalls for exporters from the NorthEast Region, Himalayan states, women entrepreneurs, Start-Ups, and exporters of millets.
- More than 80 exporters will participate in the fair from different segments.
Chief Guest at Paris Book Festival 2022
- As announced in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi – President Emmanuel Macron Joint Statement released in 2018 during the French President’s visit to New Delhi, India has been designated as the Guest of Honour Country at the Paris Book Festival 2022, which will take place from April 21 to April 24, 2022.
- On April 21, 2022, the Paris Book Festival was launched.
- On the same day, the India Pavilion at the Paris Book Festival, The National Institute of Design (NID) developed the India Pavilion, which comprises over 15 digital and physical exhibitions showing over 400 books published in various Indian languages, representing the work of 65 Indian publishers.
Unique knowledge-sharing agreement between Delhi and Punjab
- The Delhi and Punjab governments signed a unique Knowledge Sharing Agreement on April 26, 2022.
- The agreement was signed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the presence of other AAP leaders.
- The agreement will allow the two states to learn from each other’s good deeds for the betterment of the people of Delhi and Punjab.
World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) Prizes
- The Meghalaya state planning department’s key initiative of an e-proposal system has won a coveted UN Award – World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) Prizes, 2022 in the category of ‘the role of governments and all stakeholders in the promotion of Information and Communication Technologies for development’.
- The e-proposal system is a part of Meghalaya Enterprise Architecture (MeghEA) which helped to eliminate 75% physical work of files.
