History of Intrernational Peace Day
- 1981 – The UN General Assembly established the International Day of Peace through Resolution 36/67.
- Initially, it was linked to the opening day of the regular session of the UN General Assembly, which was held on the third Tuesday of September.
- 1982 – The first International Day of Peace was observed.
- 2001 – The UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 55/282.
- From 2002 onwards, the International Day of Peace has been observed annually on 21 September.
- Resolution 55/282 also declared the day as a global ceasefire and non-violence day.
