Rajya Sabha passes Bill to remove Bhogta caste from SC list

• The Rajya Sabha on 31 Mar’22 passed a Bill to remove the Bhogta caste from the list of Scheduled Castes (SCs) in Jharkhand and include certain other communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs) for the state.
• The Constitution (SC&ST) Orders (Amendment) Bill’22 was passed by a voice vote.
• The Bill amends the Schedule to the ST Order to include communities in the list of STs in Jharkhand.

9th edition of India-Seychelles Training Exercise LAMITIYE22 concludes

• The 9th edition of India – Seychelles Joint Training Exercise LAMITIYE-2022 concluded on 31 March 2022.
• The 10 days long exercise focused on enhancing interoperability for developing the capability to undertake joint operations in a semi urban environment.
• The joint military exercise will enhance the level of defense cooperation between the Indian Army and Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF).

PM Modi virtually attends 5th BIMSTEC summit hosted by Sri Lanka

• Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 30 Mar’22, attends the 5th BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for MultiSectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit hosted in virtual mode by Sri Lanka.
• The theme of the summit was “Towards a Resilient Region, Prosperous Economies, Healthy People”.
• He also witnessed the signing of three BIMSTEC agreements in various fields

International Transgender Day of Visibility: 31 March

• International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event occurring on March 31 every year.
• The day was founded by transgender activist Rachel Crandall of Michigan in 2009 as a reaction to the lack of LGBT recognition of transgender people.
• The first International Transgender Day of Visibility was held on March 31, 2009.
• In 2014, the day was observed by activists across the world.

Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Kumar appointed as the first visiting professor to the T. N. Seshan Chair at IIIDEM

• To commemorate and celebrate the achievements & contributions of Sh. T N Seshan, former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India & his special connect with the young and aspiring India, Election Commission of India had announced the establishment and funding of a Chair on interdisciplinary approach to Electoral Studies in the Centre for Curriculum Development at India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi. The Chair will be mentored by Sh. N. Gopalaswami, former CEC.
• On the recommendations of the committee, the Commission has appointed Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Kumar, Professor, Department of Political Science, Panjab University, as the first visiting professor to the T. N. Seshan Chair.

20TH EDITION OF INDIA FRANCE NAVAL EXERCISE VARUNA – 2022

• The 20th edition of the Bilateral Naval Exercise between Indian and French Navies – ‘VARUNA’ is being conducted in the Arabian Sea from 30 Mar – 03 Apr
• The Bilateral Naval Exercises between the two Navies were initiated in The exercise was christened as ‘VARUNA’ in 2001 and has become a vital part of India – France strategic bilateral relationship.

1st in India to introduced a scheme that allows prisoners to obtain personal loans from banks

• It will be a first of its kind initiative in our country. The Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank would provide loans up to 50,000 under the scheme at a 7% interest rate.
• The scheme would be implemented in Yerawada Central Jail in Pune, Maharashtra, on a pilot basis. This type of loan is called a “khavti” loan, and benefits approximately 1,055 prisoners.

Chairman of Payments Council of India

• Vishwas Patel has been re-elected as the Chairman of Payments Council of India (PCI) for the second time in 2022, previously he was elected as a Chairman of PCI in the year 2018.
• In 2013, he served as Co-Chairman of PCI. PCI is a payments ecosystem industry body, and is a part of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
• PCI aims to promote cashless transaction society and visions to grow digital payment in India.

India TB cases up 19%: India TB Report 2022

• Delhi Tops in TB Prevalence: National TB Prevalence Survey in India 2019-2021
• According to the ‘India TB Report 2022 – Coming Together to End TB Altogether’, India has recorded a 19% increase in Tuberculosis (TB) cases in 2021 over 2020 & as per ‘National TB Prevalence Survey in India 2019-2021’ Report, Delhi has topped the TB Prevalence in India (among the population aged above 15 years and among all age groups) with 534 cases per 1 lakh population and 747 per 1 Lakh population (highest in India) respectively.
• The report was released by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya during the “STEP Up to End TB 2022” Summit organised on the occasion of World TB Day 2022
