For the first time National Tiger Conservation Authority meeting was held outside Delhi

  • The 20th Meeting of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) was held in Pakke tiger reserve in Arunachal Pradesh today under the chairmanship of Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav.
  • For the first time in history the NTCA meeting happened outside the national capital. In order to get first-hand information about reserve, local issues etc. the Union Minister had directed that henceforth these meetings will be held outside Delhi in forest areas or in tiger reserves.

National Judicial Conference on Mediation and Information Technology

  • The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated a two-day National Judicial Conference on Mediation and Information Technology, being organised by the High Court of Gujarat, at Ekta Nagar, Narmada district of Gujarat
  • Speaking on the occasion, the President recalled his days as legal practitioner and said that during those years, one of the issues that occupied his mind was ‘access to justice’. The word ‘justice’ encompasses a lot and it has rightly been stressed in the Preamble of our Constitution

Riya Jadon wins 11th DGC Ladies Open Amateur Golf Championship

  • Riya Jadon won the 11th edition of the DGC Ladies Open Amateur Golf Championship on 7 April 2022.
  • She defeated her older sister Lavanya Jadon with a title score of 232 (78, 80, 74).
  • Riya also won the junior girls trophy.
  • Over a hundred women golfers took part in the tournament, which resumed at the Delhi Golf Club after a two-year gap.

IIT Kharagpur named one of the top universities of the world

  • IIT Kharagpur has been named as one of the top universities in the world for the study of several subjects in the domain of engineering.
  • The institute ranked 37th in 2022, an improvement from its 44th position in 2021 in mineral and mining engineering.
  • In engineering and technology, it ranked 101st in the world and third in India, as per the 12th QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022.

57th CRPF Valour Day: 9 April 2022

  • CRPF Valour Day is celebrated on 9 April each year to commemorate the battle at Sardar Post in Rann of Kuchh, Gujarat.
  • Only 2 companies of CRPF repulsed the attack of a full-fledged Pakistani military brigade on 9th April 1965.
  • On that night, the CRPF lost six of its brave soldiers.
  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) came into existence in 1939

2022 World Press Photo of the Year announced

  • A photo taken next to the former Kamloops Indian Residential School has been chosen as the 2022 World Press Photo of the Year.
  • For the 1st time in the contest’s 67-year history, the World Press Photo of the Year is a photograph without any people in it.
  • The photo was taken by Amber Bracken, a photographer from Edmonton, commemorates children who died at the Kamloops Indian Residential School

‘Tomb of Sand’ shortlisted for International Booker Prize

  • Author Geetanjali Shree’s novel ‘Tomb of Sand’ has become the first Hindi language work of fiction to be shortlisted for the International Booker Prize.
  • The book, translated into English by Daisy Rockwell will compete with five other titles from around the world.
  • The award carries a cash prize of 50,000 pounds literary prize, which is split evenly between the author and translator.

First batch of aircrew of Indian Navy completes training in the US

  • The 1st batch of the aircrew of the Indian Navy has completed its training in the US to operate the MH-60 ‘Romeo’ multi-role helicopters, in April’
  • The 10-month long course included conversion training and other advanced qualifications on MH 60
  • India is procuring 24 MH-60R helicopters as part of around Rs 15,000-crore deal with the US govt under the framework of foreign military sales.

China successfully launches new satellite for Earth observation

  • China successfully launched a new Earth observation satellite on 7 April
  • Gaofen-3 03 was launched from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre by a Long March-4C rocket and has entered the planned orbit successfully.
  • It will be networked with the orbiting Gaofen-3 and Gaofen-3 02 satellites to form a land-sea radar satellite constellation and will capture synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images

DRDO successfully flight-tests Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet technology

  • DRDO successfully flight tested the Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) booster at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on 8 April
  • The SFDR-based propulsion enables the missile to intercept aerial threats at very long range at supersonic speeds.
  • The SFDR has been developed by Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad.

Sangeet Natak Akademi awards to be presented on 9 April 2022

  • 43 eminent artists will be presented with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship and Sangeet Natak Awards for 2018 on 9 April
  • The Lalit Kala Akademi’s Fellowship and National Awards for 2021 will be given to 23 people
  • Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu will present the fellowships and awards.
  • The 62nd National Exhibition of Art will also be inaugurated on the same day.

India’s agricultural exports touched their highest-ever mark by crossing $50 billion in Financial Year 2022

  • India’s agricultural exports touched their highest-ever mark by crossing $50 billion in Financial Year 2022
  • The agricultural exports grew by 92 percent in the financial year to touch $50.21 billion, as per the provisional data provided by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S).
  • In the financial year 2020-21, agricultural exports had grown by 66 percent to touch a total of $41.87 billion.
  • Some of the products that achieved highest-ever exports in FY 2021-22
  • The wheat exports alone jumped almost four-fold from $568 million in FY 2020-21 to $12 billion in FY 2021-22.

Amazon’s Project Kuiper

  • Amazon has signed agreements with three companies – Arianespace, Blue Origin, and United Launch Alliance (ULA), to deploy the majority of satellites for its Project Kuiper, which aims to provide high-speed, low-latency broadband to a wide range of customers across the globe.
  • The company has finalized a total of 83 launches over a period of five years, which is one of the largest commercial procurements of launch vehicles in history.
  • Project Kuiper plans to launch two prototype missions later this year (2022) on ULA’s ABL Space Systems’ RS1 (Revolutionary Simplicity) rocket.
