Chandrayaan-2 spectrometer makes first observations

  • According to ISRO, Chandra’s Atmospheric Composition Explorer-2 (CHACE-2) has made the first-of-its-kind observations of the global distribution of Argon-40 in the tenuous lunar exosphere.
  • CHACE-2 is a quadrupole mass spectrometer onboard Chandrayaan-2 mission,
  • These observations provide insight on the dynamics of the lunar exospheric species, as well as on the radiogenic activities.

MSME Innovative Scheme and MSME Idea Hackathon launched

  • Union Minister for MSME Narayan Rane on 10 March 2022 launched the MSME Innovative Scheme (Incubation, Design and IPR) along with the MSME Idea Hackathon 2022
  • The scheme will act as a hub for innovation activities facilitating and guiding development of ideas into viable business proposition which benefits society directly.

Ratnakar Shetty’s autobiography “On Board” released

  • A book titled ‘On Board: My Years in BCCI’, an autobiographical account of Ratnakar Shetty’s experiences as an administrator, was released in March 2022.
  • Shetty went on to be the BCCI’s first Chief Administrative Officer after serving the Mumbai Cricket Association.
  • The book was released by Sharad Pawar, the former president of the MCA, BCCI, and International Cricket Council.

AGREEMENTS

Bureau of Indian Standards signs MoU with IIT Roorkee

  • Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) signed an MoU with IIT Roorkee on 10 March 2022 for the establishment of ‘BIS Standardization Chair Professor’ at IIT Roorkee.
  • This would be the first Standardization Chair established by BIS in an Institute for activities on Standardization and Conformity Assessment.
  • The MoU would facilitate R&D in the field of Standardization and Conformity Assessment.

Tomb of Sand long listed for the International Booker Prize 2022

  • Geetanjali Shree’s translated Hindi novel Tomb of Sand, translated from the original Ret Samadhi, has been long listed for the International Booker Prize
  • It has been translated by Daisy Rockwell.
  • It narrates the story of an 80-year-old woman who is depressed after her husband’s death.
  • This is the first time the translated text of a Hindi novel has been long-listed for the prize.

International Day of Women Judges: 10 March

  • March 10 2022 marked the first International Day of Women Judges.
  • The day was celebrated and observed for the first time after the UN General Assembly passed the resolution concerning the same in April 2021.
  • It aims to recognise the efforts and contributions being made by women judges.
  • The day also empowers young women and girls who aspire to become judges and leaders in the community.

37th foundation day of NCRB: 11 March 2022

  • Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the celebrations of the of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in New Delhi on 11 March 2022.
  • NCRB came into existence in 1986.
  • It is an Indian govt agency responsible for collecting and analysing crime data as defined by the Indian Penal Code and Special and Local Laws.
  • It is headquartered in New Delhi and is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

APPOINTMENTS

Government appoints Ajay Bhushan Pandey as NFRA chief

  • The government has appointed former Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey as Chairman of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) for a period of three years.
  • Pandey, a 1984-batch Maharashtra cadre IAS officer, retired as revenue secretary in February 2021.
  • Prior to becoming revenue secretary, he was chief executive of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

Andhra Pradesh retains top rank in Skoch State of Governance ranking

  • The Andhra Pradesh government has once again bagged the top rank in the Skoch State of Governance rankings 2021.
  • The second rank was bagged by West Bengal and Odisha was ranked 3, Gujarat was ranked 4 and Maharashtra was ranked 5, and Telangana was ranked 6.
  • Andhra Pradesh also bagged top position in police and safety, agriculture, district administration and rural development

International Conference on Diet and Nutrition in Unani Medicine held

  • The Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the International Conference on “Diet and Nutrition in Unani Medicine for Good Health & Well-Being” in Srinagar on 10 March
  • He announced that the Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine will be developed as a Centre of Excellence.
  • The session witnessed the release of two Unani e-books.
