- India is among the world’s major bamboo-growing countries.

- The Indian Forest (Amendment) Act, 2017 removed bamboo grown outside forests from the legal definition of “tree” under the Indian Forest Act, 1927. This facilitated its cultivation and transport.
- The National Bamboo Mission (NBM) was launched to promote the bamboo sector, including cultivation, processing, marketing and value addition.
