Bihar govt to launch doorstep delivery of digitized land records

  • The Bihar government will launch doorstep delivery of digitized land documents, including khatian and map, in the state.
  • This was informed by its Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Ramsurat Kumar.
  • Khatian is a document for identification of land for determining posession.
  • Bihar will be the first state in the country where people will get the facility of doorstep delivery of these documents

Hungary elects Katalin Novak as first-ever female President

  • Novak will succeed Janos Ader, after his term expires on May 10,
  • She has been elected for a 5-year term after defeating Peter Rona in the elections.

Mithali Raj breaks World Cup captaincy record

  • Mithali Raj on 12 March 2022 broke the record for most matches captained in the ICC Women’s World Cup, surpassing former Australian counterpart Belinda Clark.
  • She achieved the feat in the match against West Indies.
  • Mithali led the country in 24 World Cup games, claiming 14 victories, 8 losses and one no result.
  • Clark had captained her side in 23

Chandrayaan 2 detects argon-40 gas on the surface of the moon

  • ISRO has announced that the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft has detected the presence of argon-40 on the surface of the moon
  • The Chassis-2 instrument in the Orbiter tank detects the formation of argon-40 gas on the surface of the moon and extends into the outer atmosphere.

ISRO to pick 150 students for ‘Young Scientist Programme’

  • ISRO is organising a special programme for school children called “YUva VIgyani KAryakram” (YUVIKA) or “Young Scientist Programme”.
  • It will impart basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to young students, especially those from rural areas.

Tiger Woods inducted into World Golf Hall of Fame

  • Tiger Woods was formally inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in March
  • The World Golf Hall of Fame also presented 2 new distinguished service awards for the first time.
  • Renee Powell was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Charlie Sifford Award while Peter Ueberroth and the late Dick Ferris were honored with a Lifetime Achievement recognition for their contributions to golf

Swachhta Pakhwada Awards

  • The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Swachchta Pakhwada Awards were presented to the winners by the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on 11 Mar’
  • Indian Oil Corp Ltd was ranked 1st, Oil and Natural Gas Corp. 2nd and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd was 3
  • He also launched the Ministry’s annual publication ‘Indian Petroleum & Natural Gas Statistics 2020-21’.

APPOINTMENTS

Debasish Panda appointed as IRDAI Chairman

  • The union government has appointed former Financial Services Secretary Debasish Panda as Chairman of IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India).
  • His tenure as the chief of insurance regulator will be for three years.
  • Panda, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, retired as Financial Services Secretary in January 2022 after a two-year stint.

Democracy Report 2022: Autocratisation Changing Nature

  • According to the Swedish based V-Dem (Varieties of Democracy) Institute report titled, ‘Democracy Report 2022: Autocratisation Changing Nature’, India has been ranked among the top ten autocratic countries in the world and has been ranked 93rd on the Liberal Democracy Index (LDI) out of 179 countries.
  • Top 5 Liberal Democracy Index (LDI) countries: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Costa Rica and New Zealand
  • India acquired 69th rank in liberal component index (LCI), 114th rank in Egalitarian component Index (ECI), 85th position in Participatory Component Index (PCI) and 102nd postion in Deliberative Component Index (DCI).

Global Investment in Digital Shopping in 2021

  • According to the London & Partners (the Mayor of London’s international trade and investment agency) analysis of Dealroom investment data, India secured the 2nd largest global venture capital investment hub for digital shopping companies, growing up to 175 percent from $8 billion in 2020 to $22 billion in 2021.
  • Within India, Bengaluru, Karnataka has topped with $14 billion worth of Venture Capital (VC) investments in digital shopping in 2021.
  • Total Global VC investment for 2021 stood at a record $140 billion, which is up from $68 billion in 2020.

SC appoints A.K. Sikri as Chairperson of High-Powered Committee

  • The Supreme Court has appointed its exjudge A.K. Sikri as Chairperson of a High-Powered Committee.
  • The committee has been constituted by to “consider the cumulative and independent impact of the Char Dham Mahamarg Vikas Pariyojana (Char Dham Highway Development Project) on the entire Himalayan valley”.
  • Sikri will take over from Professor Ravi Chopra as Chairperson of the Committee.
