Suresh Raina felicitated with ‘Sports Icon’ award by Maldives govt.
- Suresh Raina was felicitated with the ‘Sports Icon’ award at the Maldives Sports Awards 2022.
- He was nominated alongside 16 international sportspersons, including former Real Madrid player Roberto Carlos, Jamaican Sprinter Asafa Powell, and more.
- He is the first Indian player to score 6000 as well as 8000 runs in a T20 career and the first-ever cricketer to reach 5,000 runs in IPL.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc wins Bahrain Grand Prix
- Charles Leclerc of Ferrari won Formula One season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix on 20 March 2022 defeating Max Verstappen.
- It was Ferrari’s first win since 2019.
- Lewis Hamilton was in third place for Mercedes.
- George Russell took fourth place to give Mercedes a score of 27 points.
- Kevin Magnussen claimed fifth place.
Jayati Ghosh appointed in UN advisory board on multilateralism
- Indian development economist Jayati Ghosh has been appointed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to a new high-level advisory board on effective multilateralism.
- She is a professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
- She was previously a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
- She is also a member of the UN’s highlevel Advisory Board on Economic and Social Affairs.
Jiya Rai: Youngest female swimmer to swim across the Palk Strait
- Jiya Rai has become the youngest and fastest female swimmer in the world to swim across the Palk Strait from Talaimannar (Sri Lanka) to Dhanuskodi (India).
- She covered a distance of 29 km, in 13 hours and 10 minutes on 20 March 2022.
- She achieved the feat at the age of 13 yrs and 10 months.
- The record was earlier held by Bula Chowdhary who swam the distance in 13 hours 52 minutes in 2004.
TCS and IIT Madras partner to launch M Tech program in Industrial AI
- Tata Consultancy Services has partnered with IIT Madras to launch an M Tech program in Industrial Artificial Intelligence (AI) for working professionals.
- The 18-month-long course, designed in consultation with TCS, will be offered by IIT Madras in an online live teaching mode through virtual classrooms.
- The program will have theoretical courses and lab work covering data science and AI.
World Para Athletics Grand Prix begins on 21 March 2022
- The 13th Fazza International Championships World Para Athletics Grand Prix began in Dubai on 21 March
- A 29-member Indian team, led by Paralympian Dharambir is taking part in it.
- Dharambir will compete in men’s discus throw and club throw F51
- Around 500 para-athletes from 43 nations are participating in it.
Devendra Jhajharia becomes first para-athlete to receive Padma Bhushan
- Devendra Jhajharia has become the first para-athlete to receive the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian award.
- He has won many Paralympic medals, including his first gold at the 2004 Paralympics in Athens.
- Avani Lekhara, a para-shooter, was also awarded the Padma Shri award in the sports category.
- She is the first Indian woman to win two Paralympic medals in the same Games.

- PM Narendra Modi and PM of Australia Hon. Scott Morrison held the 2nd IndiaAustralia Virtual Summit on 21 March

“Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre”
- Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has established a Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre for large-scale multidisciplinary effort to map human brains at the cellular level.
- The state-of-the-art centre is a global project that focuses on high – resolution brain imaging, the institute said in a statement recently.
- The Centre aims to become a world-renowned research centre, generating unprecedented human brain data, scientific output and technology tools.

- Diebedo Francis Kere of Burkina Faso has been declared the 2022 Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize.
- Pritzker Prize is the highest and most prestigious honour in architecture field, founded in
