Lt. Gen. Vinod G. Khandare appointed Adviser in Defence Ministry

• Gen. Vinod G. Khandare (retd.) has been appointed as Adviser in the Ministry of Defence.
• From 2018 till October 2021, he served as the Military Adviser in the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) under the Prime Minister’s Office.
• He was commissioned into 14 Garhwal Rifles in September 1979 and served for nearly four decades.

Abel prize 2022 Awarded to American mathematician Dennis P. Sullivan

• The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has awarded the Abel prize’22 to American Mathematician Dennis Parnell Sullivan.
• He is awarded for his groundbreaking contributions to topology, or in general its algebraic, geometric and dynamical aspects.
• He has won numerous awards, among them the Steele Prize, the 2010 Wolf Prize in Mathematics and the 2014 Balzan Prize for Mathematics.

Former Chief Justice of India RC Lahoti passes away

• Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) RC Lahoti passed away on March 23, 2022.
• He served as CJI from June 2004 to October 2005.
• In 2006, then Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh presented him with National Law Day Award
• He was given the award for his unique contribution in the field of administration of justice making it more friendly to the people at large.

Avinash Sable Creates National Record in 3000m Steeplechase

• Avinash Sable made a new men’s 3000m steeplechase national record in the Indian Grand Prix 2 Athletics competition in Thiruvananthapuram on 23 March 22.
• Women’s 400m sprinter, Priya H Mohan and Discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur shared top honours in the women’s events.
• Abdulla Aboobacker of the men’s Triple Jump came up with a personal best effort of 16.95m to claim gold.

Madeleine Albright, first female US secretary of state, dies at 84

• Madeleine Albright, the first female U.S. secretary of state, has died of cancer on 23 March 2022.
• Albright was a central figure in President Bill Clinton’s administration, first serving as US ambassador to the United Nations before becoming the nation’s top diplomat in his second term.
• In 2012, Albright received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from
• President Barack Obama.

India successfully test fires S-to-S BrahMos supersonic cruise missile

• Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully test fired the surface to surface BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in the Andaman and Nicobar islands on 23 March’22.
• BrahMos is a nuclear-capable missile that can be fired from land, surface and air.
• The extended range missile testfiring was witnessed by Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari and other defence officials.

World Tuberculosis (TB) Day: 24 March

• World TB Day is celebrated every year on 24 March annually to commemorate the date when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacillus that causes TB in 1882.
• This Day is observed to educate people about TB, its impact around the world.
• The theme of World TB Day 2022 – ‘Invest to End TB. Save Lives.’

PM Modi inaugurates Biplobi Bharat Gallery at Victoria Memorial Hall

• PM inaugurates Biplobi Bharat Gallery at Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata on 23 March 2022.
• The Gallery displays the contribution of the Revolutionaries in the freedom struggle and their armed resistance to British colonial rule.
• The purpose of this new gallery is to provide a holistic view of the events that led up to 1947 and highlight the important role played by the Revolutionaries.

NITI Aayog to Launch Second Edition of Export Preparedness Index

• NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the Institute of Competitiveness, will release the 2nd edition of the Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2021 on 25 March 2022.
• The Export Preparedness Index ranks all States and UTs on the basis of their export readiness and performance.
• EPI 2021 is based on four main pillars: policy; business ecosystem; export ecosystem; and export performance.

First state in India to introduce Carbon-neutral farming

• Kerala is all set to become the first in the country to introduce Carbon-neutral farming for better soil health.
• For this, the State government has set aside Rs. 6 crores in the 2022-23 Budget.
• In the first phase, carbon-neutral farming will be implemented in 13 farms under the Agriculture department and tribal areas, and steps are on to convert the State Seed Farm at Aluva a carbon neutral farm. In the second phase, model carbon neutral farms will be developed in all the 140 Assembly constituencies
