MSDE has recognised INS Shivaji as the Centre of Excellence (COE)

  • Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has recognised INS Shivaji as the COE in the field of Marine Engineering.
  • MSDE’s designation of INS Shivaji as a COE is the first of its kind for any military organisation, and it reflects the INS Shivaji’s continued commitment to skill and technology development.
  • INS Shivaji is an Indian Naval Station in Lonavala, Maharashtra

World Air Quality Report 2021 Released: Delhi most polluted capital

  • Sixty-three of the world’s 100 most polluted cities are in India, according to the World Air Quality Report 2021, prepared by Swiss organisation IQAir, released on 22 March.
  • Delhi remains the most polluted capital city in the world for the fourth consecutive year.
  • The report said Delhi tops the list of capitals with the highest average annual PM2.5 concentration followed by Dhaka, Bangladesh

Ministry of Civil Aviation & FICCI to jointly organise WINGS INDIA2022

  • Ministry of Civil Aviation and FICCI will jointly organise Asia’s largest event on Civil Aviation – WINGS INDIA 2022 – from 24th to 27th of this month at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad.
  • The theme of the event is “India@75: New Horizon for Aviation Industry.
  • Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will be formally inaugurating the event on 25th March.

World no.1 Ashleigh Barty announces retirement from Tennis at 25

  • World no. 1 tennis player Ashleigh Barty announced her sudden retirement at the age of 25 on Wednesday.
  • She dropped the big announcement just weeks after she became the first Australian to win Australian Open in 44 years.
  • She is currently ranked world no.1 in women’s singles ranking.
  • She is the 7th on the list of women tennis players with longest consecutive weeks at World No.1 position.

Oscars 2022 Date Time Announced

  • The 94th Academy Awards are all set to take place on March 27, 2022.
  • The Oscars 2022 awards will take place in Log Angeles at the Dolby theatre.
  • The Academy Awards that are popularly known as Oscars are awarded for their artistic and technical merit in the film industry.
  • The awards are regarded as one of the highest honour in the entertainment industry worldwide.

Agnibaaz Division organized Joint Security Exercise Suraksha Kavach 2

  • Agnibaaz Division organized a joint exercise between the Indian Army and Maharashtra Police at Lullanagar, Pune on 22 March 22.
  • The aim of the exercise was to harmonize the drills and procedures undertaken by Army and Police to counter any likely terrorist actions in Pune.
  • The exercise provided an opportunity for both Indian Army and Maharashtra Police to coopt their drills and procedures.

Mohamad Reza Masoumi from Iran bags 13th Greenstorm Photography Award

  • Mohamad Reza Masoumi from Iran has won the 13th edition of Greenstorm Global Photography Award,
  • It is organised in association with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
  • The first runner-up for the award is Jophel Botero Ybiosa from the Philippines.
  • Greenstorm Global Photography Award is organised by Greenstorm Foundation and the theme for 2022 was ‘Restore Green Lineage’.

HarperCollins announces publication of The Book of Bihari Literature

  • HarperCollins India announces the publication of The Book of Bihari Literature, edited by poet-diplomat Abhay K., in October 2022.
  • Abhay K. (b.1980) comes from Nalanda, Bihar, and is the author of ten poetry books.
  • He received the SAARC Literary Award 2013 and was invited to record his poems at the Library of Congress, Washington, DC, in 2018.

  • Bihar Day is observed on 22 March.
  • In the year 1912, the British gave a new identity to Bihar by separating it from the Bengal province.
  • Year 2022 marks 110 years of the formation of the state.
  • The event’s theme for 2022 is Jal, Jivan, Hariyali.
  • It is a public holiday in the state.
  • The capital of the state is Patna, while its CM is Nitish Kumar.

3rd edition of joint training exercise EXDUSTLIK being held

  • The 3rd edition of the joint training exercise between Indian and Uzbekistan armies, EX-DUSTLIK is being conducted at Yangiarik, Uzbekistan from 22-31 March 2022.
  • The last edition of DUSTLIK was conducted in Ranikhet (Uttarakhand) in March 2021.
  • The joint exercise would focus on counter-terrorism operations in semiurban terrain under a United Nations mandate.

Martyr’s Day or Shaheed Diwas: 23 March

  • The day honours liberation warriors Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar.
  • They were executed in the Lahore Jail on March 23, 1931.
  • Their cremation took place along the banks of the Sutlej River.
  • Martyr’s Day is also observed on 30 January, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • The government of Punjab has declared a public holiday on the occasion.

  • On this day, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) was established in the year 1950.
  • WMO is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • The International Meteorological Organization (IMO), whose concept dates back to the Vienna International Meteorological Congress of 1873, gave birth to the organisation.
  • The theme for 2022 is ‘Early Warning and Early Action.

NASA finds over 5,000 worlds beyond the solar system

  • With the discovery of 65 new planets, NASA has confirmed the presence of over 5000 such planetary bodies around stars beyond the solar system.
  • A new batch of 65 planets was added to the NASA Exoplanet Archive.
  • NASA Exoplanet Archive is the main database of exoplanet discoveries from peer-reviewed scientific papers that are confirmed using various methods of planet detection.

Defence Ministry clears ₹4,000 cr proposal for surveillance satellite

  • In a bid to finance a dedicated surveillance satellite to keep an eye on the activities along the borders with China and Pakistan, the Defence Ministry cleared a ₹4,000 crore proposal for the Indian Army.
  • The Indian Navy and Air Force already have dedicated satellites of their own.
  • The project for the satellite GSAT 7B will be carried out in partnership with ISRO.

Handmade Narasingapettai Nadaswaram got GI tag

  • Geographical Indication tag has been awarded to the Narasingapettai Nadaswaram under the category of musical instruments of class
  • Narasinghapettai nadaswaram is a classical wind music instrument that is traditionally made in a village near Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu.
  • On behalf of ThanjavurMusical Instruments Workers Cooperative Cottage Industrial Society Limited, the application for receiving the GI tag was filed by Tamil Nadu’s Nodal Officer for GI Registration of Products.
  • The nadaswaramthat is being used by artists nowadays is named pari nadaswaramand that is longer than the thimiri.
  • This musical instrument has a body that is cylindrical in shape and takes the shape of a bell at the bottom. This form of the nadaswaram provides volume and tone. The instrument’s length is two and a half feet
