World Vegan Day 2022

  • World Vegan Day is an annual event celebrated by vegans around the world every 1 November.
  • The event was established in 1994 by Louise Wallis.
  • The term “vegan” was coined by Donald Watson.
  • World Vegan Day first occurred on November 1st, 1994 as a way of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the UK Vegan Society.

International conference on ‘Role, Framework and Capacity of Election Management Bodies’

  • The Election Commission of India (ECI) will host an International Conference on ‘Role, Framework and Capacity of Election Management Bodies’ in New Delhi from October 31 to November
  • The ECI has invited Greece, Mauritius and IFES as co-leaders to lead the group on ‘election integrity’.
  • The conference will be inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

India’s first trilateral naval exercise

  • India has conducted its first trilateral naval exercise “IMT TRILAT” with the continent as part of an initiative to expand defence partnership with Africa.
  • The trilateral exercise of the navies of India, Tanzania and Mozambique was held at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 27 to 29 October
  • The Indian Navy was represented by guided missile frigates, INS Tarkash, a Chetak helicopter and MARCOS (Special Forces).

French Open Men’s Doubles title winner

  • Star Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the French Open Super 750 title with a straight-game win over Chinese Taipei’s Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han in the men’s doubles final badminton.
  • The world number eight pair defeated 25th-ranked Lu and Yang in the 48-minute final.

World Energy Outlook 2022 report

  • The World Energy Agency released its World Energy Outlook 2022 report which states that global emissions will be at their highest.
  • This IEA report is based on prevailing policy settings that reflect a certain level in global demand for fossil fuels.
  • This year’s report raises various questions related to the clean energy transition and the government’s responses to energy markets.

Sultan of Johor Cup 2022

  • Indian junior men’s hockey team defeated Australia to win the Sultan of Johor Cup 2022 in a shootout 5-4 after a 1-1 draw at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
  • This is the third time India has won the Sultan of Johor Cup.
  • Indian player Sharda Nand Tiwari was the top goal scorer of the tournament with 7.

Asia’s first Pathogen Reduction Machine

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has inaugurated Asia’s first pathogen reduction machine at the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow.
  • Pathogen Reduction Machine is capable of completely purifying the blood unit by removing all types of bacteria from the blood within 10-15 minutes through the ultraviolet immuno meter.

  • University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all Universities and colleges in India to observe a Bharatiya Bhasha Divas on 11 December every year.
  • Aim: To create “language harmony” and develop a conducive environment for learning Indian languages.
  • Union Education ministry to promote the Indian language proposed to observe December 11 as Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas or Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav on the birth anniversary of poet Subramania Bharati.
  • Subramania Bharati is considered to be a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry who penned songs to kindle patriotism during the Independence movement.

Launch of “Digital Currency” for the first time in India

  • Digital currency has been introduced in India for the first time on trial basis.
  • This service is to be provided in 9 banks initially.

  • India’s 53rd Tiger Reserve to be opened in Uttar Pradesh.

  • North India’s first hyperscale data center has been set up in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
