Director General of Geological Survey of India

  • S Raju has taken over as the Director General of Geological Survey of India (GSI) with effect from April 01, 2022.
  • He succeeds Shri R. S. Garkhal who superannuated on March 31, 2022.
  • Prior to this, Dr. Raju was holding the post of Additional Director General and National Head, Mission-III & IV at GSI HQ.
  • GSI is a scientific agency of Government of India. It was founded in 1851. Its headquarter is in Kolkata.

UNESCO World Heritage tentative list

  • The Sri Veerabhadra Swamy temple and the Monolithic Bull (Nandi) at Lepakshi, Andhra Pradesh was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list.
  • The Sri Veerabhadra Swamy temple is also known as the Lepakshi temple is dedicated to Veerabhadra (Shiva). The temple is known for the Vijayanagara sculpture and mural painting on the ceiling as traditional art.
  • India has 40 World Heritage sites.

Scientists detected Microplastic pollution in human blood for the first time

  • The tiny particles of Microplastic have been detected in human blood for the first time.
  • Scientists of the Netherlands have found Microplastic in almost 80 percent of the total people tested.
  • Microplastic can damage human cells in the laboratory but its impact on the human body is not known yet.
  • Blood samples of 22 people were analyzed. Half of the samples contained plastic used in making bottles, and particles of polystyrene have been found in onethird of the samples.

Top Producer of Vegetables in India in 2021–22 Crop Year

  • Uttar Pradesh has become the Top Producer of Vegetables, getting back its first position by demoting West Bengal to the second position, with a difference of a million tonnes in production in 2021–22 Crop Year (CY) (July– June), after two years since 2020.
  • On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh remains the top fruit producer.
  • India’s horticulture output is likely to drop marginally by 0.4% to 333.25 mt in 2021–22 from the previous year (2020–21) as production of vegetables, spices, and plantation crops is set to decline.

PM Modi, Nepal PM Deuba inaugurate crossborder train services

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba on 02 april 2022 jointly inaugurated cross-border passenger train services, RuPay payment system in Nepal and signed several MoUs.
  • The leaders also held a delegation-level meeting at Hyderabad House in Delhi.
  • Four documents and MoUs were signed and exchanged between India and Nepal on railways and energy secotors.

FIDE hands over hosting rights to India for FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022

  • International Chess Federation (FIDE) President Arkady Dvorkovich officially handed over the hosting rights to India for the organization of the FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 on 01 april 2022.
  • In 2022, India secured the bid to host FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 in Chennai.
  • The FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 will take place from July 28, 2022, to August 14, 2022, in Chennai.

La’eeb Announced as Official Mascot for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

  • FIFA has unveiled La’eeb as the official mascot for this year’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
  • La’eeb is an Arabic word meaning super-skilled player.
  • The tournament will take place from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
  • La’eeb will be known for his youthful spirit; spreading joy and confidence everywhere.

Govt introduces ‘The Indian Antarctic Bill 2022’ in Lok Sabha

  • Union Minister Jitendra Singh introduced ‘The Indian Antarctic Bill 2022’ in Lok Sabha on 01 April 2022.
  • The Bill aims to provide a regulatory framework for India’s research activities in the Antarctic and protect the Antarctic ecosystem.
  • There are 40 permanent research stations in Antarctica of which two Maitri and Bharati are Indian.

President Kovind arrives in Turkmenistan on 3-day official visit

  • President Ram Nath Kovind was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour on 01 April 2022 as he began his threeday state visit to Turkmenistan.
  • He met his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedov and discuss ways to boost bilateral ties with the resource-rich Central Asian country.
  • This is the first-ever visit of the President of India to independent Turkmenistan.

  • SankalpTaru Foundation has become the First Indian NGO in Environmental Conservation Space to Launch Blockchain on 01 April 2022.

India-Australia sign Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA)

  • The Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal and Minister for Trade Mr Dan Tehan signed the IndiaAustralia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement on 02 April’22.
  • The Agreement encompasses cooperation across the entire gamut of bilateral economic and commercial relations.
  • ECTA provides an institutional mechanism to encourage and improve trade between the two countries.

World Autism Awareness Day: 02 April 2022

  • World Autism Awareness Day is observed on 2 April to raise awareness about autism.
  • The annual event aims to spread awareness of autism and emphasizes the resilience of those affected by the disorder.
  • The 2022 theme for World Autism Awareness Day is “Inclusive Quality Education for All”
  • World Autism Awareness Day was held for the first time in 2008.

Dwayne Bravo becomes highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League ’22

  • Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Dwayne Bravo on 31 Mar’22 became the highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with 171 wickets to his name.
  • Bravo achieved this feat during the clash against Lucknow Super Giants on 31 Mar’22 here at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
  • Bravo went ahead of former Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga, who has 170 IPL wickets to his name.

GST collections crosses all record of Rs 1.42 lakh crore in March 2022

  • Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for March 2022 hit an all-time high of Rs 1.42 lakh crore breaching its previous record of Rs 1.40 lakh cr
  • Of the total, Central GST was Rs 25,830 crore, State GST was Rs 32,378 crore, Integrated GST was Rs 74,470 crore, and compensation cess was Rs 9,417 crore
  • For FY22 total GST collections amounted to Rs 14.83 lakh crore, up 30 per cent from FY21.

  • Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Singh Thakur and Governor of Karnataka, Shri TC Gehlot launched the logo, jersey, mascot and anthem of the Khelo India University Games 2021 (KIUG 2021) on April 01, 2022, at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
  • The theme song has been composed by Kannada rapper Chandan Shetty.
  • The KIUG 2021 will be held in Karnataka between April 24 and May 3, 2022.
  • This will be the second edition of KIUG. The first edition was hosted by Odisha in 2020. KIUG 2021 was postpone for 2022 due to the Covid crisis.

  • The largest electric cruise ship in the world has returned back to port in Yichang in central Hubei province, China after traveling up and down the Yangtze River for its maiden voyage
