‘Green Triangle’ inaugurated in Madagascar’s capital Antananarivo

  • As part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, a “Green Triangle” named after Mahatma Gandhi was jointly inaugurated in Madagascar’s capital Antananarivo, in March 2022.
  • Mayor of Antananarivo Naina Andriantsitohaina and India’s Ambassador to Madagascar Abhay Kumar inaugurated it.
  • Abhay Kumar also presented postal stamps on Gandhi to the Mayor, issued by the Malagasy Post.

NASA rolls out its mega Moon rocket for key tests

  • NASA rolled out its massive “mega Moon rocket” to a launch pad on 17 March 2022 for key tests.
  • The 322-foot-tall stack designed to carry out NASA’s uncrewed Artemis I mission around the moon and back to Earth is made up of NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft that sits atop of a mobile launcher.
  • NASA plans to send humans on the moon by 2025

Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Saksham commissioned at Goa

  • Defence Secretary Dr. Ajay Kumar commissioned the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Saksham at Goa on March 16, 2022.
  • It is the fifth in the series of 105-metre Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) class.
  • It has been designed and built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited.
  • The ship displaces approximately 2,350 tons (gross registered tonnage) and is propelled by two 9,100 KW diesel engines.

Dr. Jitendra Singh releases India’s Arctic Policy in New Delhi

  • Union Minister of State Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh, released India’s Arctic policy on 17 March 2022 from the Ministry of Earth Sciences Headquarters in New Delhi.
  • It is titled ‘India and the Arctic: building apartnership for sustainable development.
  • Promoting inter-ministerial coordination in pursuit of India’s interests in the Arctic is one of its agendas.

16th Asian Women’s Junior Handball Championship

  • India defeated Thailand 41-18 in their last league match to win gold at the 16th Asian Women’s Junior Handball Championship in Almaty (Kazakhstan) on 14th March 2022.
  • The result also earned them a qualification for the Women’s Junior World Handball Championship, scheduled to be held in Slovenia from June 22 to July 3.
  • The Indian junior women’s handball team has created history by qualifying for the Junior World Championships for the first time ever.
  • The Women’s Junior World Championships in Handball was first held in the year 1977.

1st state in India to use ‘Crop Diversification Index’

  • For the first time in the country, Telangana has begun recording crop diversification patterns in the form of an index.
  • According to the crop diversification index, the state grows 77 varieties, with about 10 crops, mostly grains, preferred for diversification.
  • The index will serve as a base for future crop diversification in the state.
  • Paddy, maize, and pulses are the most preferred crops in Telangana.
  • Other high-priority crops for farmers in the state include wheat, jowar, bajra, chilies, etc.

India’s maternal mortality ratio (MMR)

  • According to the latest data, India’s maternal mortality ratio (MMR) has improved to 103 for the period 2017-19.
  • The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) of Kerala has dropped from 42 to 30. Kerala has achieved the UN Sustainable Development Goals of MMR in the year 2020 itself.
  • The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has worsened in West Bengal, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh.
  • The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) has drastically improved in UP, Rajasthan, and Bihar.
  • Kerala, Telangana, and Maharashtra are included in the top 3 states with the lowest MMR in India.
  • Italy, Norway, Poland, and Belarus have the lowest MMR in the world.
  • Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) is defined as the number of maternal deaths per 100000 live births

India has decided to temporarily relocate its embassy in Ukraine to Poland

  • India has decided to temporarily relocate its embassy in Ukraine to Poland, the government said.
  • The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the decision to move the embassy from Kyiv was being taken in view of the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Ukraine, including attacks in the western parts of the country.
  • Poland is a key location for routing Western military aid to Ukraine.

Powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake

  • In Japan, 4 people were killed and 97 others were injured in a Powerful 4 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Fukushima in Northern Japan on March 16, 2022.
  • The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida stated that 4 people died during the quake and the cause of their deaths is being investigated.
  • He further added that the train partially derailed between Fukushima and Miyagi because of the quake, however, nobody was injured.
  • Japan was devastated by a deadly 0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami 11 years ago. It had killed 18,000 people and had caused nuclear reactor meltdowns, spewing massive radiation.

Ordnance Factories’ Day

  • The Ordnance Factories’ Day is observed on the 18th of March every year.
  • The production of India’s oldest Ordnance Factory, which is at Cossipore of Kolkata, was started on the 18th of March,
  • The day is celebrated by displaying the rifles, guns, artillery, ammunition etc in exhibitions all over India

16 Chinese Nationals have been granted Indian citizenship since the year 2007

  • A total of 16 Chinese Nationals have been granted Indian citizenship since the year
  • According to the data available in the online citizenship module, 10 applications of Chinese nationals are pending for the grant of citizenship.
  • The latest development was shared by the Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
  • He further said that the Overseas Citizen of India Cardholders and the Person of Indian Origin cardholders are entitled to the multiple entry lifelong visa for visiting India.
