UP replaces West Bengal as top vegetables producer

• Uttar Pradesh has reclaimed its position as the top producing state in vegetables replacing West Bengal.
• On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh remains the top fruit producer.
• Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra are the other leading producers of vegetables, according to statistics.
• Vegetable production in UP is expected to be 29.58 million tonnes (mt) in the 2021-22 crop year (July-June).

Mahesh Verma appointed as NABH Chairman

• Dr Mahesh Verma has been appointed the new Chairman of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare providers (NABH).
• He is the Vice-Chancellor at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.
• He is a recipient of Padma Shri as well as the Dr B. C. Roy Award.
• He has also received the National Science and Technology award.

Dr Arunabha Ghosh appointed to the UN High-Level Expert Group

• UN Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Dr Arunabha Ghosh to his new ‘High-Level Expert Group on Net-Zero Emissions Commitments of Non-State Entities’.
• The group will help in developing stronger and clearer standards for net-zero emissions pledges by non-state entities.
• Dr Ghosh will be among three Asians (and the only South Asian) serving on the expert group.

UNHRC appoints Ian Fry as climate change expert

• The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has appointed an expert on climate change and human rights for the first time.
• The new position was formally created by UNHRC in October
• The first to hold the post will be Ian Fry.
• Fry, who teaches environmental policy parttime at an Australian university, was one of 26 candidates for the position.
• The appointment is for three years.

Pixxel launches its first satellite Shakuntala aboard SpaceX

• India’s space tech startup Pixxel has successfully launched its first commercial satellite called ‘Shakuntala’ with SpaceX`s Falcon-9
• It hosts one of the highest resolution hyperspectral commercial cameras ever flown to space.
• It is capable of capturing orbital images in more than 150 bands of colour from the visible and infrared spectrum with a resolution of 10 m per pixel.

World Homoeopathy Day: 10 April

• World Homeopathy Day is celebrated each year on April 10 to pay tribute to homeopathy and its contribution to the world of medicine.
• The day is observed on the occasion of the birth anniversary of German physician Dr Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy.
• Homeopathy was introduced in India approximately two centuries ago.

• The Ministry of Women and Child Development has sent its draft guidelines for Mission Vatsalya Scheme to States and Union Territories to seek their suggestions
• The Ministry of Women and Child Development intended to provide ‘integrated benefits to children and women’ under Mission Vatsalya
• To secure a healthy and happy childhood for every child in India
• To foster a sensitive, supportive and synchronized ecosystem for the development of children.

EOS-02 Satellite

• A Union Minister said that EOS-02 satellite will be launched in second quarter of 2022, which was slated to launch during Quarter-4 of 2021
• EOS-02 is an Earth Observation Satellite (EOS) that will function as a Technology demonstration satellite for various new technologies.
• It will be launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
• The first developmental flight of Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV-1) is scheduled to launch the EOS-

Parliamentary Committee on Official Language

• Recently, the Union Home Minister has presided over the 37th meeting of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee.
• Created in 1976 under section 4 of the Official Languages Act,
• The Committee comprises 30 members of Parliament, 20 from Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha.
• These members are to be elected respectively by the members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote.
• As a convention, the Union Home Minister has been the Chairman of the Committee from time to time.

Hurun Richest Self-Made Women in the World 2022

• Hurun Richest Self-Made Women in the World 2022 has 124 women from 16 3 Indian self-made women billionaires have featured in the top 100 with Falguni Nayyar placed in the top 10 of the list.
• Nykaa Founder Falguni Nayyar has acquired a place in the top 10 list of self-made women billionaires in the world. As per the Hurun Richest Self-Made Women in the World 2022, Falguni Nayyar is the newest entrant in the women billionaires list with a massive $7.6 billion wealth. She has debuted at number 10 on the list, making her the only Indian to do so.
• Other than Falguni Nayyar who is in the top 10 of the self-made billionaire list, Radha Vembu is among the biggest risers in India and is at the 25th position while Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is at the 26th position

Agnipath scheme

• The centre is in the final stage of finalising the Agnipath recruitment scheme, under which the youth can enlist in the army for three years. Agnipath is reportedly the new name of Indian Army’s ‘Tour of Duty’ proposals.
• The Agnipath (serve in the combat forces) scheme for the youth envisages the induction of 100 officers and 1000 other young recruits for a short three-year term.
• The scheme reportedly aims to provide an opportunity to the youth to serve the nation. The young recruits will be called Agniveers (Military tourists).
