Antartic explorer Shackleton’s ship discovered after a century

• Scientists say they have found the sunken wreck of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton’s Ship Endurance, more than a century after it was lost to the Antartic ice.
• THe Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust says the vessel lies 3000 meters below the surface of the Weddell Sea, about 4 kilometers south of the location recorded in 1915 by its captain, Frank Worsley.

Chennai Metro first to install disinfection technology

• Chennai Metro has become the first Metro Rail in India to install Micro – Plasma Oxidation (COSMO) sytem, a disinfectant technology, which provides sterilisation for air and surface disinfection at stations and trains.
• This system helps destroy virus, bacteria, moulds etc.
• The main advantage of this technology is that it uses tap water as input.
• The system is chemical free and environment friendly.

Duplantis sets pole vault world record of 6.19m in Belgrade

• Olympic champion Mondo Duplantis broke his own world pole vault record with a 6.19-meter clearance at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting.
• Duplantis set the record of 6.18 m in February 2020 indoors in Glasgow.
• Opened his series with 5.61, 5.85 and 6.00 all on his first tries.
• He will next participate in the World Indoor Championships starting on March 18, 2022.

Jhulan becomes joint-highest wicket taker in Women’s ODI World Cup

• Jhulan Goswami on 10 Mar’22 equaled former Australia spinner Lyn Fullston’s tally of 39 wickets to become the joint-highest wicket taker in the Women’s World Cup.
• She achieved the feat against New Zealand in the ongoing tournament when she dismissed wicketkeeper Katey Martin in the 50th over.
• She is also the leading wicket-taker in women’s ODI history, having taken 248 wickets in 197

Scientists develop system for hydrogen production

• Indian scientists have designed an electrocatalyst system for energy-efficient hydrogen production with the help of the electrolysis of urea.
• It is helpful towards urea-based waste treatment with low-cost hydrogen production.
• Scientists from the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences have developed this Nickel oxide (NiOx) based system for producing hydrogen from electro-oxidation of urea.

What is Fusobacterium

• Several groups have corroborated (confirm) the finding that oral tumors among Indian patients are not driven by HPV (Human Papillomavirus infection) but by the Fusobacterium
• Fusobacterium species is a genus of anaerobic bacteria

Meenakshi Sundaram, President of the All India Tamil Union, has passed away

• Former President of the Bangalore Tamil Sangam and Chairman of the All India Tamil Sangam Assembly M. Meenakshi Sundaram has passed away. He is 79 years old.

First pig heart transplant patient dies after 2 months

• The first person to receive a heart transplant from a genetically modified pig has died two months after the medical milestone, the hospital that carried out the surgery said wednesday.
• David Bennett, 57, had received his transplant on January 7 and passed away March 8, the University of Maryland Medical System said in a statement.

3rd edition of National Youth Parliament Festival being held

• The 3rd edition of the National Youth Parliament Festival is being held from 10- 11 March 2022 in New Delhi.
• Minister of State of Youth Affairs and Sports Nisith Pramanik will distribute the certificates to the participants.
• The objective of the festival is to hear the voice of the youth, who will join various careers in the coming years, including public services.

• He is currently serving as the Managing Director-stressed assets and Information Technology at State Bank of India.
• He has been appointed for an initial period of three years.
