INDIA

India’s largest reclining statue of Lord Buddha being built in Gaya

  • India’s largest reclining statue of Lord Buddha is being built in Bodh Gaya.
  • Built by Buddha International Welfare Mission, the statue will be 100 feet long and 30 feet high.
  • Lord Buddha is in the sleeping posture in the statue.
  • The idol of this posture is in Kushinagar where he attained his Mahaparinirvana.
  • It is being made with fibreglass.
  • It will be open for devotees from Feb

Union Cabinet approves setting up of National Land Monetization Corp.

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of National Land Monetization Corporation (NLMC) as a wholly-owned Government of India company.
  • It will have an initial authorized share capital of ₹5000 crores and a paid-up share capital of ₹150
  • NLMC will undertake monetization of surplus land and building assets of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and other government agencies

13.6% of officers in the military are women

  • Women constitutes 6% of the officer cadre in the defence forces in India, the fourth largest after the USA (17%), Australai (16.5%) and France (16%), the government told the Supreme Court

TAMILNADU

Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Tamil Nadu and the British Council

  • Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu Skills Development Corporation and the British Council in the presence of the British High Commissioner
  • This agreement has been made to provide all Tamil Nadu youth with specialized training in speaking and writing English fluently and to prepare them for the interview.

Avvaiyaar Award

  • This year’s Avvaiyar Award on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu was given to “Kirija Kumar Babu” who works for the welfare of children.
  • The award is given to those who have excelled in the fields of women’s empowerment, religious harmony, language, arts, science and media and have volunteered with a service mindset.

Vaccination award for two Tamil Nadu women

  • Two women vaccinators from the Tamil Nadu, bagged the ‘Best Women Vaccinator’ award for administering maximum does of Covid-19
  • The awardees were E Tharani from Trichy, a village helath nurse attached to the Directorate of Public Health, and B Shivasankari from Chennai, an urban health nurse attached to the Chennai Corporation.

Establishment of WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine approved

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (WHO GCTM) in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
  • It has signed a Host Country Agreement between the Government of India and the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • This would be the first and only global out posted Centre (office) for traditional medicine across the globe

Country’s first 100 percent women owned industrial park

  • Telangana Industries Minister K T Rama Rao on 8 March 2022 inaugurated ‘FLO Industrial Park’, in Sangareddy district.
  • It is the Country’s first 100 percent women owned industrial park.
  • The park is promoted by FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO) in partnership with the Government of Telangana.
  • It has been set up in 50 acres with an investment of Rs 250

The first foreign leader in the history to directly address UK’s House of Commons

  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky became the first foreign leader in history to address Britain’s Parliament in a virtual speech.
  • He directly addressed UK PM Boris Johnson and the UK MPs in a packed House of Commons invoking the wartime defiance of former British prime minister Winston Churchill, saying “we will fight to the end.”

23rd Woman Grandmaster of India

  • 19-year-old Priyanka Nutakki has secured her final WGM norm at MPL’s forty-seventh National Women Chess Championship.
  • She became India’s twenty-third Woman Grandmaster. She is from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

Grandiscacchi Cattolica International Open Chess Tournament

  • In Chess, Indian Grandmaster S L Narayanan was declared the winner in the Grandiscacchi Cattolica International Open, held in Italy on March 08, 2022.
  • Meanwhile his compatriot R Praggnanandhaa came second.
  • Though Narayanan and six others, including Praggnanandhaa, finished equal first with 6.5 points after nine rounds. But, Narayanan took the top spot on the basis of a better tie-break score.
  • The 24-year old S L Narayanan from Thiruvananthapuram, earned the title of Grandmaster in 2015 and is the 41st Grandmaster from India.

AGREEMENTS

Cabinet approves MoU between ICMR and DFG, Germany

  • The Union Cabinet has approved an MoU signed between the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Deutsche Forsc hungsgemeins chaft e.V. (DFG), Germany in December 2021.
  • Its objectives include cooperation in the field of medical sciences/health research in areas including Toxicology, Neglected (Tropical) disease, rare diseases and any other areas of mutual interest.

Cabinet approves MoU between ICMR and the Oxford University, UK

  • The Union Cabinet has approved an MoU signed between the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Oxford University, the UK in November 2021.
  • One of its objectives is capacity building for Indian scientists and researchers.
  • Both will exchange and share ideas on three vector-borne diseases in the elimination phase (malaria, visceral leishmaniasis, filariasis) and emerging infections.

India, Bangladesh, Nepal finalise MoU of BBIN Motor Vehicles Agreement

  • India, Bangladesh, and Nepal have finalized an enabling MoU to be signed by them for the implementation of the BBIN Motor Vehicles Agreement (MVA).
  • There is pending ratification of the MVA by Bhutan.
  • The MoU was finalized at a meeting of the three nations on March 7- 8,
  • Bhutan participated in the meeting as an observer.

USI MacGregor Memorial Medal presented to four awardees

  • General MM Naravane, Chief of Army Staff presented the USI MacGregor Memorial Medal to four awardees, in March’
  • Two are from the Indian Army and one each from the Indian Navy and Indian Airforce.
  • The award ceremony was held at the United Service Institution (USI), India’s oldest triservice think tank established in 1870 for research and debate on national security and military affairs

APPOINTMENTS

Government appoints two new members on the board of SEBI

  • The government has appointed two new members on the board of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
  • Rajesh Verma, Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and Ajay Seth, Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs in the Finance Ministry have been appointed on the board of SEBI.
  • The government had also recently appointed Madhabi Puri Buch as the chairperson of SEBI

New President of Financial Action Task Force

  • Raja Kumar of Singapore has been appointed as the next President of Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
  • Raja Kumar is the current Head of Singapore’s delegation to the FATF since 2015.
  • This will be the first time that Singapore is taking on the Presidency of FATF, since becoming its member in 1992.
  • The FATF is the global money laundering and terrorism financing watchdog. Its headquarter is based at Paris, France.

India in the Climate Force Antartica Expedition

  • Aarushi Verma, a national level shooter and an environmentalist from Delhi, has been selected to represent India in the 2041 Climate Force Antartica Expedition, which is scheduled to be held in march
  • She is a national level shooter in pistol and trap shooting and a state and northern India Champion and national medalist and an active environmentalist. They will be fully supported and sponsored by the Hans Foundation.
