Mithali Raj equals record of most 50 plus scores in Women’s World Cup

  • Mithali Raj created history by scoring a halfcentury in the match against Australia in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in Auckland on 19 March 2022.
  • At the same time, she equalled former New Zealand player Debbie Hockley’s record of scoring fifty or more in an innings in the Women’s World Cup.
  • Both now have the record of scoring more than 50 runs in an innings 12 times.

Global Recycling Day: 18 March

  • Global Recycling Day is held annually on 18 March.
  • It was created in 2018 by the Global Recycling Foundation founded by Ranjit Baxi – who is also the founder of International Recycling Ltd.
  • It is a day to raise awareness of the importance recycling plays in preserving the primary resources and securing the future of the planet.

  • World Sleep Day is observed on the Friday before the March equinox every year.
  • It is organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society
  • It was first observed in 2008.
  • It aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders.

IIT Madras to set up a brain research centre on campus

  • IIT Madras is setting up a brain research centre, which will contribute to future brainrelated research projects.
  • It will be called ‘Computational and Experimental Platform for HighResolution Terapixel Imaging of Ex-vivo Human Brain Cells’.
  • The facility will see the creation of over 2,000 sections of a small human brain, which will be mapped into data in multiples of 100TB.

NMDC signs pact with IIT Kharagpur for dronebased mineral exploration

  • NMDC Ltd, the country’s largest iron ore producer, has signed an MoU with IIT Kharagpur for drone-based mineral exploration.
  • Both will develop spectral products, methods, and algorithms for exploration using drone for mining.
  • NMDC would be the first Central Public Sector Enterprise to conduct drone-based geophysical surveys and hyperspectral studies for mineral exploration in the country.

26th International Film Festival of Kerala begins on 18 March

  • The 26th International Film Festival of Kerala began in Thiruvananthapuram on 18 March 2022.
  • In the seven-day-long event, over 180 movies from various Asian, African, Latin American, and European countries will be showcased.
  • The festival honoured Turkish filmmaker Lisa Calan, a young Kurdish director who lost her legs in an ISIS attack in 2005, with the Spirit of the Cinema award

35th Surajkund International Crafts Mela to begin from 19th March 2022

  • The 35th Surajkund International Crafts Mela will be held in Faridabad from 19th March to 4th April 2022.
  • Jammu and Kashmir is the theme State for it.
  • The fair will showcase the richness and diversity of handicrafts, handloom, and the cultural heritage of India.
  • More than 30 countries will participate in the Surajkund fair and the partner nation is Uzbekistan.

Senior National Weightlifting Championships 2021- 22 to begin

  • The Senior National Weightlifting Championships 2021-22 for Men and Women will be held at Bhubaneshwar from 19-31 March 2022.
  • Railway Sports Promotion Board has sent a strong contingent from Indian Railways in this Championship.
  • Indian Railways Men’s team has been winners in the National Weightlifting Championships for last four years while Women’s team since last two National Championships.

Dr. Ashish Jha to take over as COVID-19 Response Coordinator

  • Indian-American public health expert Dr. Ashish Jha will take over as US President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 Response Coordinator in April 2022.
  • US President Biden’s COVID-19 coordinator Jeff Zients and his deputy Natalie Quillian are leaving the administration in April.
  • Jha is the Dean of the Brown University School of Public Health.

14th Annual India-Japan Summit to be held on March 19, 2022

  • The 14th India-Japan Annual Summit will be held on 19 March 2022.
  • Japanese PM Fumio Kishida will be undertaking an official two-day visit to New Delhi or it.
  • This will be the first meeting between the two leaders.
  • It will provide an opportunity for both sides to review and strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse areas as well as exchange views on global issues of mutual interest

Finland crowned world’s happiest nation for fifth year

  • Finland has been named the world’s happiest country for the fifth year running, in an annual UN-sponsored World Happiness Report.
  • The index ranked Afghanistan as the unhappiest, closely followed by Lebanon.
  • Bulgaria, Romania, and Serbia recorded the biggest boosts in wellbeing.
  • The index assigns a happiness score on a scale of zero to 10, based on an average of data over a 3-year period.

The NATO has organised the massive military drill ‘Cold Response 2022’

 

  • The NATO has organised the massive military drill ‘Cold Response 2022’ in Norway from March 14, 2022 and will continue till April 01,
  • The exercise is held in Norway every second year, for NATO Allies and partners.
  • The Norwegian led exercise provides an opportunity to train together in cold weather conditions over challenging terrain and demonstrates NATO’s ability to respond decisively to any threat, from any direction.
  • Around 30,000 troops from 27 nations are taking part in the 2022 edition of the exercise, with about 220 aircraft and more than 50 vessels
